What's your opinion, which food is better for dogs? Canned or dry food?

Dry food is better than canned. If your dog wont eat dry food- try switching to a better quality food or just adding a little bit of cottage cheese or canned dog food to it. Slowly give less and less of the canned food/cottage cheese until the dog just eats it dry. But, with any food change, it should be done gradually- over a 2 week period. Slowly mix in a little of the new food to the old food, and each day a tad more of the new food- until the dog is totally switched over. Switching foods too soon can cause vomiting, diarhea, and can even give them hemmoragic gastroenteritis which can be fatal.

Definitely a good-quality dry food. The only wet foods I can even recommend feeding are the premium kinds, and even then, dry food is better. It's more nutrient-dense and has less preservatives than any canned food, it's better for their teeth, better for their digestive tract and a lot of time causes less gas. If your dog "wont" eat dry, just don't give him anything else. Sooner or later he's going to eat it. A dog will not starve itself so long as it's a healthy animal.

Whatever food you feed your dog, get a good quailtiy dog food. It may cost more but you feed less of it than your grocery brands. Another option you may want to look into is RAW. But only do this if you have done a lot of research on it. Personally, I feed a combination of dry food and canned food.

I have heard that dry food is better for their hygiene, both dental and otherwise. I do know that our dogs prefer dry food to wet food, though if hungry enough they will eat either one. Canned food gives them the most awful smell, really. It really does tend to depend on the dog and its preference, though.
