I am getting ready to open up a used book store and wanted to tap the minds of all of y'all here cause you all seem to come up with good ideas. I have quite a variety of books from romance to fiction to mystery, etc. But since I am opening a store, I need a few novelties to sell along with my books. I'm already going to order some bookmarks to sell...I just don't know what else I could put in my store that people would be interested in buying. I don't want anything expensive because this is a used book store and everything is going to be cheap as it is so whatever I get I don't want it to cost much. Thanks in advance for your input.

It is a very good Idea. There is one like this in our town. They have a lot of customers. Most of them are students.Students can sell their used books there and can buy used books. Both the customer and seller are happy with this.Your location is very important. If your location is in a place where there is lot of educational institutions , your sales will go up like crazy. You can also collect old question papers for the students, make copy and bind it.

Great!
I am sure that you will be a great success in this business if you are dedicated.
I will explain what I told you about Old question papers.I our place university students will have their terminal examinations. And students who are studying for Engineering and Medical fields also have examinations.
Old question papers of past exams will help students to prepare for the exams. They will get the type of questions and mathematical problems asked by previous examiners. So if you collect those question papers i think students need it.
I think my idea is clear for you.I donno whether this idea is applicable in your area.
thanks

A used books store is a good idea and could benefit a lot of people who want to find cheap books. I frequent these bookstores and often find something good to buy. I would include also some technical or reference books. Cheers!!

Well off the top of my head and I don't know how feasible it would be and if they would sell, but I was thinking of bookcovers, especially for hardback books, maybe author themed t-shirts, action figures related to some of the books especially children's books or science fiction books, caps for mystery books as a take off on the Holmes genre. There are probably many other things and you would want to try any of these on a limited bases at first to see if they would sell. I hope that I have at least sparked some other ideas for you even if you don't think anything I mentioned would feasible. Good luck with your store.

Hi ya Wyldrose
They used to sell some nice reading glasses in a nice case in our local £1/$1 shop so you might be able to get hold of something like that or what about coasters. People usually sit down with a cup of coffee and a good book so they need something to put there mug on! Apart from that I really can't think of anything else. Ooooh what about pens? Maybe little notepads too? People who read tend you write things too!
