I have always heard that stuffing a turkey with stuffing is actually bad for you. I have never stuffed a bird before. I hear about people doing it all the time though. Do you stuff your turkey or do you cook the stuffing separate?

If you have never stuffed a turkey you must do it at least once. It is the best stuffing of all. You don't need the gravy to moisten turkey stuffing. Stuff the turkey right before time to put it in the oven. DO NOT STUFF THE TURKEY THE NIGHT BEFORE. The stuffing is hot when put in the turkey and if stuffed the night before that stuffing cooks up all kinds of good nasty food poisoning. there are two ends (pockets?) to put the stuffing in.

Lilybug, stuffinga turkey is really the only way to go. However, stuff it just before it goes in the oven. And if you are using a packaged stuffing moix then add losts of butter and 1 or 2 eggs to the mixture. Add butter and eggs to a homemade mixture too. You must stuff the bird tightlty and then take a needle and tread and sew up the cavity. Maybe you have something i the USA that will close the cavity without sewing - I don't know. After dinner, any stuffing that is left over must be scooped out from the bird - this is whar causes salmonelle. Store this stuffing separatley and reheat on a high heat in the microwave if using it again. Store turkey then in usual way. Good luck!

I almost always stuf the turkey that I cook. I usually have to make stuffing on the side as well. We love stuffing and eat alot of it with the turkey meal. I don't think that there is any harm in cooking the turkey stuffed as long as you make sure that it is fully cooked. You can purchase a meat thermometer to quelm your nerves about this if you like, they are very inexpenxive to buy. I think You should at least give it a try and see what you prefer from actual experience, but this is just my opinion.

I have only cooked a turkey once, and I did stuff it. I always stuff my over roaster chickens. Stuffing a bird is not bad for you, you just have to make sure that the stuffing reaches the correct temperature to ensure that it is done. I think the stuffing tastes much better when it is stuffed in the bird. The stock from the poultry makes the stuffing moist and really tasty. If I do not stuff the bird, I will drain off the broth and mix it with water to make my stuffing then cook the stuffing on the side.

I have heard that it tastes better, but I am always afraid of it not getting done enough. I have used stock to make mine before too.

Do you know why it is bad for you? I've always had my stuffing separate, wherever I've been, so I don't know how different it is flavor-wise either.

If it does not get cooked thoroughly then you can get salmonella.

We stuff and make some on the side. I think the only time it is bad is if you don't cook it all the way through!

I have heard that too....I usually make mine on the side, when I cook a big dinner. Usually though on Thanksgiving my sister has it for whomever wants to come so I don't have to cook.

No I don't stuff. Something about digging a side dish out of a birds butt never appealed to me. I make a separate pan of stuffing. I think it is healthier.

My family has never stuffed the turkey. We always have stuffing but it is made ont he side we have never put it in the turkey before. I like my turkey just turkey I don't like my food touching so I wouldn't like the stuffing cooked inside the turkey anyways.

I tend to like the stuffing better when it has been cooked inside the bird, so I do stuff turkeys and chickens.

What I think is most important is that you allow for the bird to cook all the way through, including the stuffing. I have never had a problem with it not being cooked through. When I check the temp of the turkey I check it in the meat and in the stuffng as well.
