teach me a lesson

In all my years of reading, I think now I realize something. That all books only have one or both of two particular things: a story to tell or a lesson to teach. Stories are nice to tell and nice to read. They take you away from the reality of your world and take you somewhere else to be someone else and to live someone else's life. It's nice when you want to escape from your own hell and live someone else's because you know at the end of the story, it still is just a story. Or it could have a 'happily ever after' ending and you close the book feeling like you still have hope to have a 'happily ever after' ending at the end of your own story. Stories have only their stories to tell. Lessons try to teach you something. They try to give you a little nudge towards the right decision, the right choice or option. They try to reach out and touch your very soul. Some books have only a story to tell. Some books have only lessons to teach. But when you find a good book and it has both, you find it hard not to keep. I love those books that not only have a story to tell but try to touch my soul as well.
