Only time will tell but I really hope he can make some kind of a difference for the better. He is a very good speaker and I think he's good at making people think "I could make a difference" which is important since he can't do everything by himself.

President-elect Obama has no choice except to become a great or a near great President. He is the culmination of a tectonic shifting of American politics, economics and culture, of a paradigm shift, so all the demands on him will be great, epochal, and historical. I think he has the endowments of a great President: brains and eloquence to use the White House as a bully pulpit and the window from which to woo the nation.
Being young, he has the energy to pursue his programs. Having been trained in community organizing, he will know when to lend the symbol and concrete power of his office to nudge things faster towards desired ends. If he has taken to heart the basic dictum of a community organizer, which is "Start from where the people are, but do not end up where they are," then he will certainly become a great President.
