does music lyrics have to have bad words to get the point across?

you know i have to say iam a music buff.i listen to all kinds of music,i was lead singer in a band until i had throat problems but if i hear talent i'll listen to more from that group or artist. but what i don't understand is through the years that i been around what we did and what others were doing we never used the language like what is being used today to get our point across of what the song was about and i don't understand if you got the talent why do you need the lingo? so what do you think? can anybody explain it to me as to why?
