I love being self employed. My daughter and I clean houses for a living and so we are our own boss and so we can take time off if we want or start working later in the day, if we want. So today is Tuesday and we only have three houses to clean. We had 5 houses on our regular schedule but since it is Rememberance day the kids have the day off from school so we got two cancellations. I don't mind having some cancellations now and then and because of it, I am taking advantage of it and staying home this morning so I can mylot. We will be going to work in about an hour. I can do a lot of mylotting in an hour. hehe So do you take a day off or go to work late, so you can do some more mylotting? Are you self employed or have a job that is easy to take time off? Alrighty then, talk to you later my friend. Your friend, Chris

That's great that you and your daughter can work togetheir cleaning houses. I tried to do that with my mom but it started one day and ended the same day. I tried to do a really great job in cleaning and I know it was fine for my standards. But for my mom's well I wasn't doing such a great job. I though it would be great to make some money with my mom but honestly that's one learning experience that I know I won't be doing it again. Plus as an adult I hate to clean. I choose not to a lot of times. Which really isn't good for my hubby. But I quess we all of faults.

I started this business 7 years ago and was working by myself for the first 5 years. Then my daughter wanted to move here, from Winnipeg to Calgary, where I live and so I said sure. So she moved here and I trained her and she worked out pretty good so now we work together. We have expanded the business so we have enough clients for both of us to make a living. It has really worked good for us. She does all of the floors, the vaccuuming and washing and I do all the other cleaning, the dusting and washing of kitchens and bathrooms. She then helps me, she doesn't take as long to do the floors, and she does the windexing. Also if the bathtub is too deep and wide she will do those too as I can't stretch or reach as easily as her. I am getting old. hehe We make a good living doing it as we have about 5 or 6 houses a day to clean, except Wednesdays. We take that day off as it is really hard on the body to clean that many houses so we need a day off inbetween.

That completely makes since it's easier to split everything up so you both can get done and get onto the next house. Sounds like you really do a lot of work how much are you charging to clean a house? or is it on per hour?

That's so funny! I can completely relate! My mom comes over for a visit every now and then and instead of spending quality time with her, she ends up cleaning my house! She is a total neat freak and when I think I've done a good job at cleaning, it still isn't good enough by her standards, so, no, I don't think I can ever start a business with her that involves cleaning anything. We'd spend too much time arguing to finish the job.

My job doesn't give that freedom you enjoy.I am a fledgling lawyer so I need to be at my senior's office on time and I come home late.I take some files home so that I can finish some of the works for tomorrow. Then I have to prepare for the arguments and the like. After everything is over it would be 1 or 2 in the night and then would be really tired.Eventhough I find time for some mylotting. It's a joy to meet the regular friends and the newbies. The joy I get when my post is responded by some fellow mylotters can't be described. The experience I gained from the mylotting is immense.Actually this has been my hobby. The mylot has rescued me from unwanted surfing thereby saving my precious time and use it for something done costructively. The mylot community reflects the whole world as it is a platform for the people from the entire planet to discuss and exchange their ideas unlike the other social networking sites. We are discussing the real life in real time thereby learning a lot.The fact that one can make a good living from cleaning houses is a new knowledge to me.Here also there are some firms which do the business but an individual will not get such a huge clintele like yours. And it's amazing that you find joy in your work even at this age.I think the people here have a lot to learn from there. Thanks Chrizlotz for this discussion.

Hey, cleaning houses has some advantages. I have lost 30 pounds partly because of the exercise I get every day. Also, most of our clients aren't home so we just turn on the music and have some fun with our cleaning. It is nice to not have a boss telling me what to do. We get paid for the amount of work we do so if we need to make some extra money we find more work for that week or whatever. We don't bust our a??es working too hard. So it is good for me, keeps me young.

Hi chris, it’s nice to be a boss of our own self so we don’t have to follow any working schedule strictly. Very often as an ordinary employee we couldn’t enjoy so much freedom like applying of holiday. We have to apply at least a week or more according to the company regulation. Not like you that you can take time off at anytime as you wish. You are really good in making use of the time. Yeah, we could do lots of things during the one hour of time. I usually grab the time before going to my part time work doing some mylot postings. I have two part time works at different places. I’m having holidays now until early next year. Anyway I couldn't do much posting frequently due to the unstable network here. I'm now in the Bakery cafe again enjoying the desserts and hot drinks here and doing some mylot posting at the same time. posting and have a nice day.

Well the arrangement is just nice for both you and your daughter to have spared time to apply for the passport. After working for a certain period it’s nice for us to have vacation in somewhere which is wonderful and get ourselves refreshed again. I hope you and your daughter would enjoy the happy winter holiday in Mexico relaxingly. We would be please if you would like to share your experience and photos taken there as well with us here after back from your vacation in Mexico or elsewhere I understand that many people in temperate countries would try their best to escape from the severe cold during winter season and spend their comfortable holidays in countries with warmer climate. In the other hand, we people live in tropical country where the climate here is warm and hot all the year round prefer to experience the cold and snowing winter season which we will never ever see here. Wish you a wonderful winter holiday and posting.

It sure is nice. I took today off too. One of our clients called us on Tues to cancel for today, friday so we moved some houses around and we did the other two friday houses on wed and thurs so we could take today off. We, my daughter and I, went to the passport office and applied for our passport. We are probably going to take a winter holiday somewhere warm like Mexico.

I am considered self-employed too. However, my work still requires me to move around quite a bit so I do not have the luxury to stay at home. I love staying at home too. I love to laze around and rest. Being self-employed gives me more flexibility and I can choose when I want to rest. I can also give my family more time.

I'm self employed, but all my work is done online so I am constantly trying to shift real life stuff to get a few more hours online. As for your house cleaning business... I have read great things about this as a business and how lucrative it is if you are an entrepreneur and want to jump in somewhere with minimal start up costs. I think that's great that you get to work with your daughter.

It is a really good money making adventure, that's for sure. We are making really good money. Another nice thing about this business is you don't need an education to own your own company. So anybody can do it if they have the desire to.

That is a very lucrative business. Pretty soon, you might need to hire extra staff to keep up with all the work to be done. I own my own business, too, and do have a lot of free time on my hands every now and then, otherwise, I wouldn't be able to sit in front of the computer at all. More power to your business!

I never do that but it is very handy if you can monitor your work which in your case is very useful and you can concentrate more on the earning which would boost and gain lot. Best of luck.
