I see those silly ebay commercials and I wonder just WHO would buy something vintage that doesn't even work, or why those things seem to command such huge prices. Are you a collector? Help me out here.

Well im not a collector but it makes some sense to me. It's like buying a car that doesnt work, but knowing that you could do most of the repair work on your own time, and just pay for parts and still end up the winner.
People that buy something vintage that doesn't work perhaps KNOW how to fix it or someone that does or perhaps it has a sentimental value - reminds them of a certain person or time in their life that sort of thing.
I once saw someone trying to sell a potato that somewhat resembles Jesus's head if you really use your imagination and it was going for crazy high prices lol... i didnt care to check what it sold for but thought it was insane all the same. Well, that is sentiment for you eh?

Okay that is not just odd but sad... that those people would try to have a toy take up the place of a real child... um how about adoption???

The point of these dolls I guess is for people who do not want the work involved with a real baby. Adoption would be pointless for these folks, they'd never qualify. Obviously they have enough money because those dolls are very expensive, and all the things people buy for them, outfits, a stroller, a carseat, a diaper bag. It's probably somewhat of an obsession like people with those little dogs they carry around and dress, although if they want to go out, they can of course just leave the baby doll 'sleeping' at home unattended.

Oh, I think its like having the key to someones treasures. Theres alot of pre-victorian things on Ebay and I love that stuff. I also collect art so Im always trying to sell peices and learn about an artist I've seen somewhere. I am currently trying to figure out who John McLellan and if he has any relation to Ralph McLellan, the author and artist known to work with famous artist Andrew Wyeth. McLellan originated in my region which also adds a real unique story. One of the books that Ralph M. wrote is about a farm in PA that is said to of put out nearly a 100 artist. My all time favorites are portrait peices and they can be amatuer it does not matter and in fact I prefer amatuer peices because they just feel authentic.
