Fake Mypace accounts, WHY?!

Ok, so I'm surfing the net, making my "daily rounds" to my regular sites. CNN, being one of favorite sites, updates atleast 10x a day. I read that MOTHER of a young girl assited, if not fully responsible for, creating a "fake" myspace account, which was used to harrass a 13 year old girl, and which eventually led her to commit suicide! I am shocked. I mean, in complete disgust. WHY would a MOTHER help her daughter in such immature, and down right mean doings? And over myspace? Now, I'm sure the creator of myspace did not intend for their site to be used as a crutch in such cruel games. I know a few people that do have more than one myspace account, but none that I'm aware of, to harass other people. Now, I'm sure at one point or another, myspace has been the center of some "drama" in our lives (I have experienced it first hand), but come on! The fact that a mother helped her child in this is just upsetting. And the fact that it was done thru myspace? With all the b.s. going on that has one thing or another to deal with myspace.com, just might provoke the creators to do some serious screening on accounts (new and existing), if they decide to not shut the site down all together. It's sad, really. If that's what it comes to. Myspace is supposed to be used for networking, friends, family, etc., just like any other site relavent to myspace. It's a shame... people, as parents, I just hope that the rest of us are smarter, and wiser than this woman was. God bless!

I remember this story. Sadly, it happens a lot that people make fake myspaces and use other peoples pictures to be deceitful. Or to get attention. I do not understand it, but I have seen it done and have experienced the shock and betrayal of someone I thought I "knew" turning out to be using someone else's pictures. It is definitely a learning issue, and during the time I've used the internet I have learned a lot about what kinds of cues to pick up on with fakes, predators, scams, etc. I don't know why people waste their time, but they do so all you can do is protect yourself the best you can.

I remember this story, too. It is disgusting what that mother did. I truly do not understand that mentality. It's bad enough that kids bully other kids! But, when ADULTS bully kids? I don't get it at all. It is very sad. :(

This was a topic on Dr Phil one day and some students were on there and said this is not uncommon. Yes, it is bad that some people will do anything cruel to others but in such a way that it can ruin their reputation for life. They also discussed that some have not even been able to get jobs because the employer checks out to see what is on myspace and facebook about the person. Some of the students had not so nice photos that kept them from being chosen for the job.
That is terrible that the mother assisted in this. What does that teach the daughter?!

I know what you're talking about, I believe I read about that somewhere. However, if the page has no relevance to the company, I don't see why it would be such an issue with an employer, what a potential employee has on their myspace! It's so sad, myspace is a networking website, and no matter how many icons a person puts on their page, it does not define their life, or how a person is.. it's pretty much "judging a book by it's cover" don't you think? I mean, if I had applied for a job, and had a bad day one day, just happen to change my profile song to "Break Stuff" by Limpbizkit, because of the vulgerness of the lyrics, should that really prevent me from a job? I don't think it should. Oh well, I guess every employer has their reasons. Thanks for the post!
