Have you ever made soap?

I made some soap last month and it turned out really well imo. I am thinking of making some more. It is just the melt and pour type of soap. Do you think the quality of the melt and pour types of soap are as good as the soaps where you have to use the lye to make them? I am sort of afraid to use lye right now because I don't really have a very safe place to store it. If you do make soaps do you have a favorite place to buy supplies? Last do you think homemade melt and pour types of soaps make good gifts?

sound interesting but how do you make soap? Is it easy to make? Did it turn out like the soap we buy in the supermarket?

it is easy to make the melt and pour type soaps you can go to the hobby store and find a kit to get started, and yes I would say the soap was probably better than what I have normally bought at the store. it is easy to make just follow the directions

This is something that sounds interesting, even the children would probarly enjoy making them and then giving them away as gifts. How do you go about making it? Is it a kit that you use or do you get all the necessary ingredients and put it all together yourself ?

I just bought the gycerine (sp) at a craft store and melted it and added the scents and colors I wanted, I did start off with a soap making kit. But added more to it, al the stuff to make the melt and pour type soaps are right there on the shelf at the craft stors. hths

I have made soap before , but I used the kits that you can buy that are just melt and pour into a mold and set it up and then you have soap. I also make candles that are melt and pour . It is so much easier and they already have the color and scents in it. Great and easy!!!!

The kind that I made I added the colours and scents to and it was easy, I need to go make some more after a little while. I need to start making candles too, I haven't done that in a very long time. anyway I think I will need to hurry and reclean the house so that I can start doing something that is more fun. Do you ever sell the soaps that you make?

yes, a couple of years ago our two daughters and i made soap for christmas presents and what we did was we cheated. we bought the soap kits from the local craft store and did it that way. michaels does have a somewhat small but extensive soap making centre.

That's where I bought the stuff to make these soaps I made recently, they had lots of different types of the melt and pour soaps stuff I think it was something called gyserin (sp) not sure I spelled that right. anyway, I am thinking of buying more so I can make a few more bars of soaps here and a few more bars of soaps for gifts, then maybe some to sell. Is it legal to sell homemade soaps? Or do you have to have a permit of some kind? Just wondering as you do use soaps on your skin.

you should try it, you can add colours and scents and everything, you could even make some to match your bathroom or kitchen decor. Maybe even make some for gifts for all your friends, if you do the melt and pour it is super easy and you can find all kinds of different molds. Try it you'll have fun. and it's creative. :)
