My daughter when she was 13 or so she wanted hers done and of course I said no, so she went and did it herself with a sewing needle and a wire earring. Well she hid it from me for weeks and then it started to get infected. Well I knew she had done it because at one time I seen it when she had a short shirt on I noticed it was red I knew it had gotten infected. So I waited for her to come to me about it, well she didn't so one day she was sitting in the living room with me and my mom now I had told my mom about it and we decided to teach her a lesson and play a little trick on her. I started a conversation about infections and mom said yes I know and when you pierce yourself with a sewing needle it's a special kind of infection and I then said you know I heard that if you do that and give yourself a piercing in the belly button you can get an internal infection that is so bad you have to get 10 shots all in one day. LOL as soon as that last word was out of my mouth my daughter jumped out of her chair and with bright wide eyes shouts Mom I have that infection! and that's when she admitted her guilt and confessed about her wonderful belly piercing lol. I never laughed so hard in my life mom and I just roared she is looking at us like we have lost our minds. Well then I had to come clean about it and told her it was just a joke and it was to teach her a lesson she then went and took out the earring an we fixed her up lol. A few years later I took her down to a piercing place and had it done professionally, she remembered the story and told it to the lady who was piercing her lol she got a kick out of it.

I'm too scared to have one because I have one classmate back in college that had an infection. His belly was on a bad condition and the skin turned dark already. The doctor told him that he must take some medicines for it to heal. My classmate was obviously in pain because he can't sit properly because he's to afraid that the infection might hurt again.^^,

It really doesnt hurt that bad. I did it myself with an earing when I was in high school. Took that out and my friend pierced it with a safety pin a few weeks or months later. Took that out and then had it pierced at a tattoo place. They didnt use a hollow needle so it started to grow out and I had to take it out. I had it pierced at a different place the next time and they used a hollow needle. I had that in for at least a year or two before I got pregnant and had to take it out. It hurt worse to get my belly button pierced with the hollow needle then it did to get both of my tatoos. I remember thinking I didnt do to bad and then when I was sitting there after having it done and watching my friend get a tattoo done I suddenly felt like I was going to faint. I didnt say anything to anyone I didnt want to be embarrassed. The feeling went away fast and I didnt wind up fainting.

I am not one of those who are adventurous enough to have their body pierced. WEll, I would like to think that there are better things to do than mutilate myself. Cheers!!

I got mine pierced when I was about 14. I liken it to the same pain a bee sting would cause, so..really, not that bad. The most painful thing for me was changing it the first time, actually. The ring they used was a circle with a ball that was supposed to come off easily, but it definitely didn't! It took about half an hour to finally pry the thing apart...but, obviously, mine wasn't a common case, as none of my friends had the same problem (luck me..lol) Anyways, good luck with your new bod art!

My belly button piercing did not hurt very much. The clamp they use actually hurts more than the piercing. You should expect for the piercing to be sore until it heals. Try to avoid letting anything rub against your piercing ie. pants.
