Do criminals deserve cruel and unusual punishment?

I say someone deserves the worse but shouldn't get the worse. Why? It is to prove how humane we are. If you believe someone should get cruel and unusual punishment does that mean you support a coed prison where there is not only male and females sharing a cell but adults and children too. To those who support cruel and unusual punishment for those who commit the worse crime ever why not just put all of them in the same place no matter who they are? If it was up to me I would only have only the most violent people in prison who can't be rehabilitated. To not mix strong criminals with weak criminals. To not mix those serving life with those not serving life.

I would love for some people to be punished properly, but I find that I think very few people could be judged for anything they have done. Anyone who would say, torture and abuse a young child might do it because they were threatened to and nobody has ever known that, it might be because that's the only way they know how to raise a child because they suffered the same abuse, the person might simply be mentally ill- or they might be convicted and really innocent. I don't really know who really is deserving and guilty. So I would say, that they should go to jail, and nothing cruel and unusual. All the stories of jail rape and prisoners beating up each other isn't really great either, I don't think anyone deserves that.

I don't know about cruel and unusual punishment. That might be overkill. I do think the punishment should fit the crime.

Do you believe in eye for an eye? So should rapist be raped? Should thieves have their stuff stolen? Should murders be murdered?
