Do you ignore beggars who beg from you?

I never ignore them. It's either I tell them I have no money or I give them money. Most of the time I give beggars something to be happy about. There are two small boys who drop by our house everyday to beg for anything. they are garbage collectors and we give them all the things that they could sell in the junk shop and we also give them some food everyday.
In the streets where beggars are a normal site, I always give the beggars some coins to add to their days sustenance. Some people look at me and advise me not to give them money because according to them these beggars use the money they beg to buy something to sniff instead of buying something to eat. But I can't keep myself from giving because I always have a weak heart for these kind of people.
My reason for giving a few coins for them is that at least I am helping them in a way.

Hi friend,When I see beggars on the streets and if they are aged and helpless and ladies with children, crippled and diseased I certainly give them something, but I 'l never encourage children .When we give children it becomes used for them and they will never get a mentality to earn and they would pass their life begging. When they dont get anything in begging and their mind will think of only stealing. So we can only help people who are truly helpless and diseased.thanks for sharing.happy mylotting.

My husband and I usually give to the blind, and we buy flowers from the kids selling them on the street, because at least, they're working for it. But if they're just begging, we usually just try to ignore them. I think what would be better is to have these little snacks in your purse or your car. That way, you know you're REALLY helping them by not giving them money to buy something to sniff rather than eat.

I seldom come in contact with beggars because I am always on the farm. When one comes to me I invariably say there is no money for them. They leave but some are quite persistent. If they were selling something they would probably make a lot of money because they have the quality of persistence that sells. Unfortunately, they have no product to sell except pity and they target you like predators. Cheers!!

There are some who really need some help and i always share them something. But really, as you said there are some beggars who only prey on other people's weakness but they are earning a living.

I try and give them my change if I have any. I agree with you I just don't have the heart to walk right by. There is a man that sits on the off ramp of the exit when I come home from work. He has a little chihuahua that looks like my little pup and man that pup gets to me everytime. I try to give him my change from the day or if I have a snack I took to work and didn't eat at work I will give it to them and hope he and the pup will share it.

It's really hard ignoring these people. We are luckier than them and we should give them consideration.

I give coins to beggars that i feel are really poor and out of food. If I feel that a person should not be given alms i tell him or her that i dont have change. Sometimes there are these kids. I give them something to eat rather than money. Because i have heard that some people kidnap children and let them beg and take over the money they bring in.. So i do not give children who beg money, instead i give them something to eat.

Good! I sometimes think giving money isn't right, especially for children. But if I don't have any food with me, I just give them money with one thing in mind that they are going to use it to buy something to eat.

That's depends.
If the beggers were old people or children, I'll give them some food or coins; if they were young and strong, I would ignore them....
Beides ,it is said that some beggers R Not real beggers, they belong to an orgnazition which make use of the begers(especially some teenagers) to make money...That's true, when I was in college, I met a boy beger three times the same day....

I'm ashamed to say that I do ignore beggars now! I never used to though. I used to give them change and I would even go so far as having a brief chat with them. So, what changed? I really have no idea. I think that it's hard to tell the genuine beggars from the ingenuine beggars! I remember seeing a news program once on how some people were dressing as beggars and they were earning a real income from doing this! They would sit there in their rags and they would beg for money and, by the end of they day, they would pack up, change clothes and return to their normal jobs. This really destroys any credibility that the genuine homeless may have. I guess we cannot judge everyone like this so I guess we have to exercise caution. Andrew

the only time that i ignore beggars are when i already have informed them i have no money or no change but still keep bugging me. i rarely give money to them. it's not that i'm rude enough not to think about their situation but i think of the general situation as a whole that the more you give to these people, the more that they abuse your kindness. i have a principle. giving is not always in monetary. what i would usually do is whenever there are leftovers from the restaurant where i eat, i would ask the waiter to prepare it to be packed & i would give this to whoever beggar i see in the street. what pisses me off at times though is that no matter how effort you give to these people, instead of getting the food they ask for money instead. but i still don't. i do have one pratice too of keeping all nonbiodegradable things such as plastic bottles, tin cans, etc.. once they're all piled up i wait for some beggars who knock at each door & ask for it. instead of giving them money, give them something to work on. this in turn they could sell it to the junk shop.
so you see, i don't ignore them. like you i have a kind heart for them. but i don't give money. i also work hard for my money so i give them what i can give. food is better or somethign they can sell. in this case i know that the things i give could be in a good way. who knows what they will buy with the money we give right?
when i still lived in baguio (city here in the philippines) i noticed that there are many beggars (mostly blind) are in the same spot everyday. but take note that durign night time theyre not there. from that i knew then they we're controlled by a certain group who are usign their disability. there's also this one time that a wheelchaired man is asking for money & i saw him being fetched by a car!
people can be deceiving at times. so as much as possible even if we want to share, we also need to know where it goes. and it better be on the good way.

Sometimes I do especially when I'm in a crowded area. But if not I give coins to beggars. I usually give to blind beggars only because I know they really need our help. I encounter one time a small boy who was holding a plastic that smells like rugby was begging a P10 coin and I told him in his face NO, because I know where his collected money will go. Its really saddening that some beggars are too dependent on the money they collect. ^^,

Hi Masmasika,
I really have no mercy over beggers! Because everyone strives hard to earn a penny, i pay a begger i he/she is really uncapable of working. But, i never ever look at a begger who is really making it as a business.

If the beggar is blind from both his eyes. Then i give him money.Small kids who be in the train i don't give them money.Because whatever money they collect from us they give it to their parents. They make more money by begging than a person who is working hard in a company.

It's really hard to know where to place myself when it comes to beggars. Sometimes they would beg and I would give then I would see them in one corner just gambling with the money they gathered from begging. Sometimes I would give to them only to discover that they are part of a syndicate who beg for business. I can no longer differentiate who is the real beggar and who are impostors. But at any rate I believe for as long as I gave money with the motive of helping them in my own little way, it is up for the Lord to bless me for what I did and should I was just deceived then it is no longer my problem but the deceiver's. However if I was not deceived then that is double blessing one for the beggar and one for me.

i sometimes ignore them...i sometimes give. it depends. if i have money, then i will give and the other way around. hmmmmmm, it is just a never ending problem about beggars and poor people, that we or we should not give them, for such a lot of reasons, and we are confused as to what is the proper thing to do. the government says that we should not give them because we are teaching them to be dependent on us, and promote mendicancy or anything. on the christian side, it is important to give to them because they need us, they need help, our fellow brothers and sisters. waaaaaaaah! i don't know what is right or wrong...i guess its up to the person.

Whenever I see any beggars, I will give them some money. Not much but at least they can have some decent food. I dont like to see them suffer especially if they are small kids. In my country, our government will conduct a random roundup of beggars from time to time. They will be placed in suitable welfare homes where they be cared for.

Those beggers are very pity.I was born in the rural area,so i have encountered mor beggers. Some of them are blind, some have no hand, when i come acoross them i will give them some money. But some rich men doesn't pay attention to them, perhaps they think walk close to the beggers will lose face.It is the fact, those people who have more money can give the beggars more help, but they ignore them instead. Most people will give a hand to beggers,if others have a weak heart for them i think there will be less beggers.
