Spam. We receive them every now and then. What amazes me is this... I am receiving them darn emails even when the send-to party is not me. For example, my email could be ahgong@email.com But I am receiving spam mails sent to sesey99@email.com, or drwouerqoieur@somemail.com or 129308uiisnn@anothermail.com. Everyday, without fail, I will be receiving some sort of spam mail sent to some unknown fella but it ends up in my mailbox! So here I am, working hard to filter them as they arrive. And my filter list is growing by the day! I mean, how the heck do these mails get into my mail box when it is obvious that they are not meant for me? Even reporting the problem to the service provider does not help. They just send the mail accordingly as the they only act as a proxy. SO, tell me, do you experience such instances in your mail box? How do you deal with it?

Spam is one of the downsides of the Internet. I even received spam emails from myself i.e someone used my email address for spamming purposes. This could be one reason why I have been blocked from joining certain sites when I tried using the compromised address. I found one of the email providers is not as effective in stopping spam. I based this on the fact that I keep receiving spam from the same address. Maybe this is because I have a free account. I opened other email accounts but eventually spammers found their way into my inboxes. Sighhh... There are two ways to reduce spam attack. 1) Never use a clean email address to register at other web sites. 2) Never open suspicious emails especially attachments. It seems that some hackers are able to put codes which tell them whether the email is opened or not. If opened then it means the addressee is a good potential target. So we get more spam. Good luck in your fight

Spam... not the kind you can eat! - But the kind that you consider as junk in your email inbox!
Yeah, I get some of those too! And I cannot filter them out cos if I do, all my mails will go to the junk folder! Darn cunning these spammers are. Even when precautions are taken, the spam still manages to make their way to my inbox. It is just plain puzzling why that is happening. Other than routinely updating the spam filter manually, and deleting those that came from my own address, there is no other way to prevent them spam from coming in. If only I could catch the bugger or buggers behind this. Then I'd haul their butts off to the authorities! This would bring undue peace and happiness to email users all over the world! *evil laugh.... fading into the distance... * ha ha ha ha ha ha ha....

this is pretty common for me already. i'm still not too sure how they did it but i've been receiving emails like that for quite a while. i don't usually create a filter list as the yahoo spam filter is quite effective. however, the worrying trend now is email address spoofing. i've ever received a delivery failure notification. i couldn't remember when i ever sent an email. when i opened up the notification, i realised the email couldn't be possibly from me. it's those typical nigerian scam emails! apparently the scammer had spoofed my email address in an attempt to get past the filters.

I too got a lot of those email delivery failure emails. Complain umpteen times to the service provider, but they are not doing anything about it. So what can we do when our email address got spoof? How do we prove that we are not the ones sending the email out? It is amazing how they can spoof email addresses, isn't it?

does it help much? Cos the provider I am on, is not doing much to prevent this from happening. And I am sort of resigned to the fact that they are not gonna do anything about it either.

Even physical mail boxes are not spared the junk m - We get loads of these flyers in our letter boxes all the time. Now, people are chucking them in your doors and throwing them into your living room from the gate!
Grrr!
When a spam mail is sent, the sender is usually not the originator of the mail. So replying to the mail address is useless. Most of the times, these mail addresses in the list is not even valid. What I am puzzled is, how people actually make money of these spams when the mail addresses on the replyto is not even valid. How do they keep track of the mails to validate that they are sent? Is there really money to be made from spamming everyone's mailbox?

Junk mail - Deleting them with the help of a filter.
I too am actively updating my filter list to filter out these junk mails. And with it, my number of spam mail in the inbox has reduced quite a lot. If not for the filter, I would have to filter out heck of a lot of mails! Darn these spammers! Why do they have to add such misery to our lives? What have we ever done to them to deserve these headaches they are creating?

Desperate measures - Trying to get rid of Junk Mail can be a very tiring affair.
I too have a yahoo account. I too have to constantly check the mails that I consider spam and add it to the spam list. Then another mail from a different user from the same domain will appear. For example, today I will be receiving spam from user123@somemail.com. After I filter it out as spam, the next day I will get a mail from user246@somemail.com. Again the cycle repeats. And it happens again the next day. So fed up, I started to filter out by domain instead. Cuts down on alot of the spam domains that are out there!

I think thats where the words "sending mass unsoliciting emails" mostly come in, i mean people sending this kind of emails mostly use programs where they send thousands of emails at once, and some of them i believe they just stumble into your spambox, and if you reply to that...they add you to their list and next time it will go straight into your inbox I get those kind of emails everyday and for me to believe that is the mass emailing that cause all this is because...some of the emails i got few days ago..could clearly show a list of all people they sent Yesterday i just took some time to read list of all those email accounts they send from that particular email i got, and guess what....they send that unsoliciting email to 8964 email acconuts(at once)

Mailbox Full? - Trying using a filter to reduce the junk you receive in your inbox
Yeah... I am also using a combination of filters on the browser and the mail app to achieve this as well. One thing you must admit though. These spammers are darn good at what they do. They will always find a way to land one or two of their mails into your inbox. The irritating ones even have the dates set to some future date so that it stays as the first mail you see no matter what other emails is received by the server. Cunning bast@rds!

I just wonder too, i am not sure if they get paid when you read their e-mail or what, is funny. but one thing i know is that if the e-mail contains picture or any visual things on them, they can easily know that you e-mail account is active and they can always find other ways to send you different spam e-mails I'm on yahoo and i've turnon the fearture that blocks all visuals mails, no matter who it comes from, be it from trusted and untrusted people

I know what you mean ahgong, SPAM is taking control of several of my email inboxes. I say several because I have set-up other email addresses just so I could escape from guess what? SPAM!!! But it always seems to find me sooner or later. I have a junk mail filter and it least that does capture a lot. Gmail seems to be working the best for me now.

What type of e-mail are you using? If you are using Yahoo mails, they provide you will a spam filter so that it is automatically put aside when the e-mail is not addressed to you. I think they have a software that can detect our e-mail addresses and they can even enter into other people's e-mails. Nowadays there are many hackers so I guess we must take precaution actions to beat these hackers. If they keep pestering you, I suggest you make a report to the e-mail provider that you are subscribing with. Write a request about the abusive actions done by those who sent you the spam e-mails. By doing this, I think it can reduce your problem.

Spam, love to hate it! - Clutter in the computer that we can do without!
Using a web base email that is downloadable to my PC. I am already using the spam filter. And the spam is still making its way into my mail box. Imagine, if I did not turn on the spam filter, I'd be havong to clear my mailbox ever few hours! And the worst part of it is, most of these spam has a .cn in the source address. I never really got into any of those chinese site to register anything. But I am getting spammed by them on a daily basis!

That is what I am doing on a daily basis. That is why it is a nightmare everytime I have to go travel and have no access to my emails. The number of spam I get is ridiculous! The only thing I can do is to faithfully filter them out as I check my mails on a daily basis. The occurance has reduced somewhat as compared to a few years ago. But nevertheless, it is still annoying to be receiving spam sent to people like kiss_me_2007@sosomail.com or love_me@thismail.com... Irritating!

Junk mail filling up the box - Junck mail filling up the electronic inbox on your computer
Sometimes it is not that easy to switch. After you have been with some service provider for a long while, the subscription enjoys a discount for loyalty. If I change my service provider, I will lose all that loyalty discounts I chalked up when I was with this company. I wouldn't want to start over again just to encounter the same problem again with the new provider. So, now, it is boiled down to one choice. Use a mail filter and keep it up to date all the time!

I know the reason why, the sender send the mail to those guys you can see as receiver, and at the same time, he 'BCC' to you, "blink carbon copy"to you. In that case, you can only see the receiver's e-mail address, but can not see our own e-mail address... Maybe the sender send you this mail and bcc to many person at the same time, but he don't want you to know other receivers' e-mail address.

If only you can fry mail spam like you do real spa - Then eat it, let it pass out and then forget all about it!
I do not really care about the other receiver's address. The problem with these spam is, even the sender's email are not valid! The only way to block them out is to use the filter and then block by domain. This will reduce the chances of them using the same email domain to send you multiple copies of the same mail.

I get a lot of them too. What I did was I just don't open them then mark each one as spam. Then just empty your Spam Folder, no need to open it. Do this everyday...they will ticker down. Remember, never open them.

Spam mail flooding your mailbox? - Block it by using the filters on the mail application you are using!
That is what I am doing now. Just frustrated that those mails that are not directed to me are also ending up there. And those are the ones that the filter cannot catch either. Heh heh heh... I guess the daily battle with spam is getting to me. :p
