How are people rewarded for more thourough responses?

Hi, So I am kind of new to this, and I thought that if people are earning/receiving money for writing responses to questions, what's stopping them from spamming 1-letter answers to maximize profit from this site? Also, are you paid more based on the detail and quality of your answers? I see some people who write close to a page of beautifully crafted answers and some people who write one sentence, will the person who put in the effort get paid more for their effort? Also, are you paid more for certain things more so then others? For example are you paid more for writing a short story under the short story category as opposed to writing a quick answer to a short answer questions? How is everything monitored? And how often are you paid? Thanks a bunch for all the help I really appreciate it.
