Do You Think That Employers Should Allow Employee To Wear Slippers In Office ?

Sometimes I think who made it neccessary to wear shoes to the office .....
Their are fancy slippers in the market .....just see the image attached .....
Why can't we wear them to office .....as they are more comfortable ?
Shoes deprive our feets of comfort and fresh oxygen so are unhealthy and uncomfotable ?
Shoes too carry dust as slippers why only slippers are banned in office .....
Do You Think That Employers Should Allow Employee To Wear Fancy Slippers In Office ? For comfortable working of employees or leave it as a choice to employees what they want to wear on their feet ?
Please give reason in or against it
Thanks
Ganesh

I am totally with Ganesh44 on this one. I think slippers should be allowed. Now keep in mind everyone she isn't referring to pink bunny slippers or any fuzzy squishy type of slipper. If I am correct I believe she is referring to something resembling a ballet flat but in slipper form. I never agreed with strict attire in the office. Sure you need to look presentable but why does comfort have to be given up. Now on the other hand there are plenty of shoes and clothing that would be considered acceptable attire along with being comfortable. One doesn't need to dress in constricting, uncomfortable shoes and clothing to be presentable. So, I think the slippers should most certainly be allowed.

I don't see why it's an issue of the employee sits most of the day and is behind their desk. My husband owns a business firm. One of his partners takes off his shoes when he enters the office and walks around in his socks. He has done this for years and I haven't heard of any issues. He's comfy and happy as a result. Might make for better business decisions.

I agree with you that employees should be allowed to wear fancy slippers to work. Furthermore, fancy slippers will not destroy the image or reputation of a company, because the employees will not look shabby or not neat while working.
I think by wearing fancy slippers, an organization can create a new image which is possible to enhance the reputation of the company. I am telling this because nowadays people are always looking for uniqueness in a product or style. If a company adopts the style of wearing fancy slippers to work, it would promote employee morals towards better production.
I think there is no harm for employers if their employees wear fancy slippers to work. If I were the employer, I would allow my staffs to wear them to work. But with one restriction: Be neat and tidy to work. Look presentable and nice to look at.

wow what a wonderful,marvellous reply .....
Infact you understand well that a nice looking fancy and neat slippers can make employees comfortable and at the same time their performance would go up ......
Rather than a well dressed chap feeling uncomfortable wearing shoes, tie, suit length he/she will add only uncomfort to the organisation .....lol
I dont know why people dont understand this simple logic and try to follow something blindly like wearing shoe is professionalism and wearing slippers makes one disgusting, unprofessional ha ha ha ha lol just because they have been following an uncomfotable convention without a valid logic for decades lol.......
Even I do agree that employee must be neat and tidy ....

My jobs and both the roomie's and the former roomie's jobs only required something on the feet - and if I/they wanted to wear slippers it didn't matter to our bosses.
However, my feet have gotten so that I can barely walk without my shoes and my orthotics in them.
My roomie has been wearing slippers, tho they look like shoes, for the last few years. I had been known to take slippers to work to wear in the winter to keep my feet warm, but I didn't wear them to wander around the halls, because of my foot problems.

Hi Gamesh44,
In our country we have to dress properley right down to our shoes, we have to look smart at all time, if your shoes is not comfortable, then you have to get yourself a more comfortable shoes but no slippers.

Every country has it's own rules, no exception with the offices i guess with the reason "it's not polite being arround the office wearing slippers" and usually the boss not like it, especially when the employee meet the clients

I would say it depends on the type of work the employee does. Can you imagine the manager of a bank greeting a customer in fancy gold embroidered slippers? It would not look professional. Also in some companies are are dangers to your feet. So if slippers were allowed and something crushed the foot of an employee the employee would sue the company. There a jobs though where the employee sits all day long either at a computer or some other electronic device, has no contact with the public, does not have to walk great distances in corridors and does not enounter hazardous situations. In those cases I think the employee should be allowed to wear comfortable shoes at their work stations.

ohhk yes you have approved slippers for those who sit and work ha ha ha lol so freedom for sitting employees .......
I am trying to make out how slippers affects looks ....I think it look odd since it is for too long we have been following shoe culture what if we have been wearing slippers for last 8-9 decades ha ha ha ha lol than all of us would have loved to wear slippers and would have said ohhh shoes no they dont make one look professional ha ha ha ha lol so it is something we r following for long ....

I guess it would depend if clients or other companies that your company worked with visited the office. It might not look very professional.
I wear pretty comfortable shoes, though, so I can't really complain about shoes. If your shoes were not comfortable, I can see why it would be beneficial to wear slippers.

I do agree with you as it's easy to move areound specially if your works needs you to go from here to there. but if ever employers agrees to have their employees to wear slippers i don't think they will agree with the fancy ones it needs to be a more of a formal look. coz fancy slippers are for homes and for roaming around places.

My ex boss would never allow slippers in the office. She wanted suits and high healed shoes. I refused to wear them as they are so bad for my back. As there were no formal rules she could not tell me off so I wore very low heals.
I think being able to wear slippers would have been so comfortable and so nice. men wear comfortable shoes. I think it is unfair that they insist that women have to wear such bad shoes.

Hi there!
Wearing shoes all day is exhausting for our feet and they need to relax too. Personally I think its ok to use slippers in the office but only if we are on our table. And everytime we have to go to other departments, especially talk to the boss, we should be wearing our shoes.
I have seen some employees wearing slippers in some offices. They have it hidden under their table so it's not obvious they are wearing one. We have to be in proper dress code or uniform when we're at the office. It makes us look neat and formal when we're at work.
Ciao!

herwe in our company we have a dress code. from mondays to thursday we are to wear our t-shirt uniform. entry level positions wear a collared shirt with combination of grey & magenta which by the way is our products motiff. supervisor level wears waer & management level wears black. everyone can use jeans except for managers who still should use slack & black or formal shoes. anyone then below the managers should wear decent shoes whether close or open along with skirts & jeans. skirts should not be above knees of course. so those are our uniform days.
we are then allowed from friday to sunday to dress casually. this is what we call "dress down days". we are allowed to wear shorts (for men), pedal pants for ladies, any kind of jeans, casual shirts, and this includes wearing of flipflops or slippers. practically people can wear what they wear at their house.
the company gives us the right to do so because aside from calling it dress down, it is pretty much our laundry week too. deprived of being able to wear casual clothes they have given us this opportunity.
since flipflops have been a fab trend lately people do use it even inside the the building. i love wearing slippers becuase it's so comfortable. for us, friday, saturday & sunday is like working at home!

With that kind of fancy slippers you attached with this discussion, I can say here in our country we are not allowed to wear that kind of slippers because most of the offices here have a uniform and it would not fit to the dress code of the uniforms, we only wear fancy shoes for shopping and specifically for slippers we will be tag as informal and most people here will judge you by your looks.

Slippers are more comfortable than shoes. but in office shoes is better. because it will give an executive look. slippers are not giving executive looks. in office shoes are comfortable. when we wear slippers in the office we cant serious in our work. so shoes are comfortable in office. so employers should not allow to wear shoes in the office to theri employyes.

Yes I think so. Socks and shoes are uncomfortable and I feel really sorry for the guys. In fact our office had slippers for employees and we would wear them and feel very comfortable. Now most are either torn or gone and have not been replaced. But if someone wants, s/he can always wear them. In our summer country, I think its quite unhealthy to keep the feet covered in socks and shoes for more than 8hrs every day.

They don't do that here because if the employee stubs his toe on something, they can sue their employer for pain and suffering and God knows what else.
It's a good idea, though! Most office workers don't connect with the public and should be comfortable.

No. Slippers are not work attire. There is a time and place for everything. Slippers are designed for hanging with friends, going to the beach or whatever like that. The fancy slippers are maybe designed for more formal functions, but not for jobs. I don't wanna go to the office and smell someone's stanky feet or see the fungus growing out of their nails, ewwww! Keep that at home. Okay, maybe not everyone's like that, but there are more reasons than that. I just don't wanna spend an hour writing them all out, lol.

Of course the office is entirely different from an ordinary setting. We transact business in a formal setting and we must look formal and presentable. Imagine if we see employees in uniforms but wearing ordinary slippers? It looks awkward. It's okay to wear sandals or heeled slippers but not the ordinary slippers.
@Ganesh44 (5547)

12 Nov 08
ohh yes I do agree ordinary sleepers looks awkward so does ordinary shoes also all wear fancy shoes .
Another thing I think there are fancy slippers in the market that look better than shoes lol yes only thing is that it has become convention and we adopted it blindly for years although we feel uncomfotable in it .......
SO it should be left as choice to employees what they want to wear shoes or fancy slippers

I think a lot of employers prefer that their employees wear the proper business attire because it looks more professional. I guess it all depends on the type of working environment and industry you are in. For example, if you work in a place where people come and go all the time, wouldn't it be better if they saw how neat and put-together everyone looks? It reflects on the business whether an employee looks professional or shabby. There are many choices when it comes to picking out comfortable shoes, and they don't have to be expensive, although investing in footwear is worth it most of the time. The important thing to consider is comfort as well as appearance.

But I think it is a convention that we are following for long to wear shoes to look professional ....suppose if from 100 years we use to wear slippers I think all would have said that wearing shoes makes look unprofessional so it is like we are following something for long and slowly it get approved......lol ha ha ha ........
