Bingo is a very famous game here in country. It is being played from the side walk of tondo streets to nicely manicured lawn of exclusive subdivisions homes. I cannot think of any SM malls that have no bingo station on it. This is a game that most of us loves playing and makes as a past time. When I am not yet a mommy I used to play Bingo with my neighbors on my hubby's community. We usually starts playing at 3Pm and lasts until 7 PM or sometimes 9 when the game is good. Now I still play bingo once in a while but with my hubby. We sometimes sneak into our kids and play bingo at the malls. When I was a kid I use to play bingo in carnivals(perya).
For those of you who are not familiar with the game, it is a card game. The name bingo is spelled out on the card and each letter has corresponding numbers, 5 under each letter (the choice of numbers are 1-15 for B, 16-30 for I, 31-45 for N, 46-60 for G and 61 to 75 fro O).The numbers 1 to 75 are put in a draw machine and drawn out one by one, if the card you are holding has the number that was called, you have to mark it. There are patterns that are used in each game, the usual are the straight lines, maybe standing, sleeping or sleeping granted that it has 5 marks. When somebody completed the pattern for the game, they shout bingo as to say that they won. There are really a lot of patterns ad some are really confusing.
The usual as I said where the straight line.
There were also a pattern that they call box, can be or small. The big box pattern is where the card all four sides are marked, meaning you have a number marked on straight top, straight down, and all numbers on B and G are marked too. The small box is where an inner box is formed, meaning, the numbers surrounding the 'free' center are all marked.
There were also a pattern they called flower, some they ask you to make a U pattern.
But the most difficult one is the blackout pattern, which you need to mark all the numbers on the card. On this game, this is usually the jackpot round and prize of the card is higher too.
I really enjoy playing this one but I think it is more enjoyable to play this on carnivals because they have a unique term for each number and it really is funny.. some are:
for 60 they say it as 'buntis'(preagnant, because the number looks pregnant)
16 they say it as batambata (young because they say it is sixteen years old)
23 they call it Jordan (as it is Jordan;s number)
29 as balisong (knife, they call the knife as 29)
56 as bumbay (no offense OK)
13 as malas (misfortune)
and so on..
the master of the game has some good sense of humor that one will really enjoy the game even if you will not win it.
Back in my perya days, we look forward to the bingo's frist game as it is free and I usually win those games (the usual prize was a bottle of sot sauce )
it is so nice reminiscing those bingo days.
How about you guys?Do you like playing Bingo?
and share some bingo names you know!

The place where i worked abroad for two years... had two main forms of entertainment... free movies everyday... and bingo twice a week... and the latter would always be packed with Filipinos... i went only a few times because i am never lucky at number games... but my father was able to win twice... the first time was the $5000 jackpot... and the second was around $2,500... and that helped our family a lot...
We were able to pay for all our debts... and that lead to a much better life for us... in the financial side of course...

hi pehpot.
reading this discussion is very timely. since I just played bingo yesterday. but its the bingo in our place. the boxes of the cards dont have all numbers. there are just 10 numbers in each box. and the basis of the winner is the first one who will have all the numbers called.
unfortunately, we didnt won even the consolation prize.

My family used to play bingo every Saturday afternoon. We used to gather at my grandma's house and play bingo for hours. Sometimes we played for a few cents. But it was fun it was a family gathering that kept us united. © ronaldinu 2008

I know how to play and I usually would just love shrieking when I feel like I am winning. I am not much of the Binggo announcer though. I remember me and my brothers would play this at home.

I had been addicted playing bingo, for a year, I always go to places where I can play bingo every weekend and spend a lot on the whole weekend. I didnt do it to win but I did it for fun I enjoyed it too much, its like I got this germs inside my system. And then later on when I got no money left, I even had debts in my credit card, I started to think of changing my life from being a gambler to do a better habit. I just couldn't believe that this kind of gamble can made me addicted so much, now I regret why I had done it I could have save all those money.

Wow pehpot, this is a really detailed discussion on bingo. You must really love playing it!!! I've played the game myself before, but I didn't know about those special terms (bumbay, malas...) until now. I enjoy playing this game when we have gatherings and parties although I never win. :( I'm just not lucky when it comes to chance games. I don't know why. I pay for fun though heehee. :)

I have always been ignorant about playing Bingo, so I can't even share! Ha!ha!ha! I don't even know how to do it. Maybe you would say I am abnormal or one of a kind but when it comes to gambling or any game of chance I really don't have any knowledge. I am more addicted to playing scrabble and have won several scrabble championship game in our office.

Yes, I do like playing Bingo, but here in India we have not cot any clubs or malls where we can play Bingo, so I usually play Bingo online, and its a nice game.
Actually, in India we play a Bingo-like game called housie, which has got randomly selected 1 to 90 numbers on a card. Each line has got 5 numbers, and we win for being first to win early 5 numbers, first line, second line, third line, corners & full house. I have get this game at home & our family frequently plays this game, although we do not play it for hours. Instead, we play cards for hours!!!

I had played bingo only once at my friend's place. It was their town fiesta and it was around 3pm when we started playing. It was my first time but the game wasn't that difficult and I had a really fun time with my friends. I won twice for 5pesos each only (lol) but it was so much fun that I just kept on playing and kind of lost track on my losses, but our bets were just small so it didn't really do much damage on my pockets. One friend won once and on the next round he bought 7 cards at once! It was really funny as my other friend who was reading aloud the letters and numbers went at it faster, and so our poor friend who had 7cards had trouble keeping up. It was really funny. He ended up losing the game haha! Poor guy, really. =) THe memory still amuses me up to this day

I play online bingo only because one of these online bingo sites always send me a promo "money" (between £2 to £5) to buy bingo cards with (or play other games like poker, slots, etc.) in their site. I already experienced winning in many of their bingo games (and video poker too), using their "free" moneys. But because it can get addictive at times (like any other gambling activities), I think I also lost all my winnings. Yayy.

I know how to play BINGO. My realtives and I before will do it at home and we all enjoyed playing. We usually do it during summer vacation when everybody didnt have to worry about going to school the next day.
I enjoyed it especially when I was winning. LOL. and of course those that were not, they didnt feel good.
Anyways, I have never played it at the malls. I didnt feel like going there and being with people I dont know.
To make the game really fun, my relatives will call out the number and when they got their birthdate they'll say pogi (handsome) or maganda (pretty). It depends on the person calling out the number.

I have to work it in my community. I do not like it however i just work it for the extra money. Its a game based purely on luck and people that believe in it. I think its one of the most boring games.

OMG! I love bingo. I love it so much that I even joined pogo.com just to play bingo. There are hundreds of other games one can play but I'm stuck on bingo. Glad to know I'm not the only one. lol...
