Parvo Virus

Those of us who own dogs know how bad and deadly the Parvo Virus is. I adopted a puppy that was 6 weeks old (part border collie and part spitz) from our local shelter. On saturday (5 days after bringing her home)morning when we left for work she looked great. By Saturday evening up on returning she looked as though she would take her last breath. She was throwing up, not drinking or eating. I force water in her until morning when I could take her to vet. They said she had parvo and of course I cried...she hadn't even got to play in our yard yet in the grass. I took her back to the shelter demanding them to give my money back so I could afford maybe a day in the vet for her since they adopted her to me having arvo. No luck, they wanted to put her alseep. I started to curse and demand someone tell me what to do at home because i was not putting her down and didnt have money to put over night at vet. After 1/2 hour they gave me antibiotic (i paid for it) and they told me to give her padi lite and gator aide (for electro lites). I slept by her and every 10 minutes to 15 minutes used the eye dropper to give her fluids. Its important to know that a dog/puppy dies of the virus mainly cause of lack of fluids and dehydration. Yuna survived and is now 2 and 1/2 years old and no trace of ever having the virus. I have also helped my step mother go through the same thing and her puppy survived as well and is almost 9 months old now. Once the dog gets the virus they can never get it again. The virus is also just contracted by dogs. I know this year the parvo was very bad. I hope this helps out anyone. Feel free to share your opinion, concerns, stories, or ask questions. All is welcome.

oh im so happy to hear that you fought for your new puppy and helped nurse her to a full recovery! that is just wonderful! ive never had a dog that got parvo, thankfully. i know there are vaccinations they get as puppies, isnt one of them for Parvo? that shelter should be ashamed of themselves! they are supposed to make sure that the dogs they adopt out have had all their shots! wait..now im not sure if that is a law they have to follow or not. it sure as hell should be!
