I'm in college and have been eating out way too much. I love the taste of chicken fried in peanut oil (think chik Fil-A here). If I start cooking at home using peanut oil, will this 1) be better than eating out all the time; and 2) a good way to ensure I'm not going to have a heart attack by the age of 30?

I think peanut oil is not as good as palm oil or corn oil. I think peanut oil has more cholesterol and are prone to give heart attack if it is eaten regularly. I am not sure of this, but I have an uncle who is suffering from heart attack and his doctor advised him to eat only corn oil. He is never to take peanut oil because this is the most high container of cholesterol. Other than that, he can take palm oil but use it sparingly. So now my auntie has been buying corn oil even though the price is much, much more expensive than ordinary palm oil. But for your first reason of buying peanut oil, you said you want to avoid eating out every time. So by buying your own peanut oil, yes, you are giving benefit to yourself by saving money on eating outside all the time. You are still young, I suppose, and I think in this age it is still alright for you to eat peanut oil. But if possible try to use other oil too such as palm oil and corn oil. Happy posting.

Peanut oil is heart healthy. Here is an article concerning a research study that was done. http://www.peanut-institute.org/Equal_Ol... Hope this helps. Also, eating at home can be healthier because you tend to eat more vegetables than when you eat out.
