Why do we need religion if we know right from wrong. To me people cling to religion to stay out of trouble because they have no self control. They feel the need to rely on someting or someone to keep them safe from themselves. When people state he/she is a good christian, why can't they be just a good person. Its not good to kill or steal but you don't need religion to tell you that, you parent should have. You should not want to hurt people and common sense should prevail.

Those that cling to the values of a religion without believing are like ghouls haunting the bones of the God they have killed. They are completely bogus, believing in a way of behaving with no reason.

Being good or bad is a choice thing not a religion thing. Man made religion for there own purpose of control, because people refuse to control themselves. Its easy to give god credit when something good happens and the devil blame when something bad happen. We don't want to own up to our own faults. We are accountable for what we do. Believing in a way to behaving don't make sense, you should know how to behave.

Yes of course we have a choice of how to behave but concepts of good and bad behaviour come from religion.
You think it is wrong to kill, steal, etc? These ideas stem from religion, if you don't believe then you have just imported the ideas of religion

If you read Genesis the 6 chapter that when men began to pray, there was no religion. Religion stole the nature system of behavior as if no one knew, until we fashion relgion. And to your earlier statement if god is the creator how can his creation kill him? Can god die. and before you answer do you know or believe

First of all, from whom or where did you learn the rights and wrongs?
From your religion ... Right?
So don't you think that you are being selfish by keeping these 'rights-and-wrongs' from them?
Give them also a chance, man!

First of all, You should not have children if you are not going to teach them. Parents are responsible to teach children right and wrong not religion, we teach them religion. Religion pushes fear to do right common tell us to do right we chooses to do what we want

You are making a common mistake. You are asking a question, "why do we need religion", and then stating a conclusion all in the same sentence. The question, "why do we need religion?" Is a good one but demands an answer beyond the concept of right and wrong. That is not the only thing religion is about. Chimpanzees have a type of morality and know right from wrong. This has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with evolution. The human species has also evolved the concept of right and wrong and does not require religion to reinforce it.
Religion gets into the game by creating moral demands that go beyond right and wrong. With religions we get things like, "Thou shall have no other God but me" that create an artificial morality that goes beyond the concept of right and wrong.
Religion seems to be an evolutionary trait. It is very basis of what makes us human so it must do something useful. What it does is create a sense of community. It binds communities together and creates a sense of trust between believers. This is much more important than the artificial morality that seems to become the center of many religions. We do not seem to be able to discard religion so we need to understand what it really does.
Your original question was good but you need to do some thinking outside the box to get the answers.

yeah yeah yeah it still go's back to the fact that religion breeds ignorance. religion does not bring people together people kill, argu, and fight over religion. Look what we are doing now, people need religion cause that is all they have been taught. if somebody tells you all your life as you are growing that the man they call the devil is god you will go with that cause that is all you know. if you have to believe that means you dont know we have to stop believing and deal with the facts. People cling to religion cause if you do bad you go to hell if you do right you go to heaven. If this so call religion did not have any consequences people would not cling to it in fact they will start to think out side the box. Religion does reinforce right and wrong if it did not then the first thing that comes out of people mouth would not be i have to love god, and do good things or i will go to hell. If religion is so great people would not have to be scared in to it by pastors or imams or other religious scholars. religion is just another implemented scare tactic to me.

All knowing right from wrong is not enough in this world. If you believe to a God that he is your creator is different from just knowing right from wrong. I need my religion in order to express my gratitude to that Creator that I am alive each day. I thank him for being safe in everything that I do, I share my happinness to the God that provided me with children, like a child who ought to share his happiness to a father who constantly providing him of everything in this world, giving thanks to him for giving me a wisdom to walk in his beautiful world ,the earth, thank him that I still have something to eat in my table, but most of all to thank him that im am always healthy and happy have a God like him who constantly showing me his wonders.
What is this world living just doing good and bad like walking with no direction, its like a pig who just eat and sleep and to be slaughter later.I see no happiness in that kind of life? My religion is leading me there, a life that is full of happiness, like giving, sharing, loving and giving thanks. Happy my lotting.

Religion is a belief in a higher being. Most dont cling to religion to keep themselves in line or in control. I wouldnt call myself highly religious I believe in God and that you have a spirit inside yourself. Yes the bible or other religious text tells you which is right from wrong but of course that is something you should know yourself. Just because you go to Church and say your a good person doesnt mean you are. Belief in nothing puts you where??? I have met plenty of people who do not believe in God but my question is what DO you believe in then??? It lets me know that no matter what happens to me in my life through prayer I will be alright. And it always ends up that I am.

If I believe in god, then I believe in me. I know a creator exist because I am here. I don't have to have a belief system to exist. I know I exist and I know something created us,I don't know why. I refuse to believe in the tooo tooo many religion of today explanations. Belief can't be in nothing, and to believe in something keeps you not knowing.

Yes this is right my sista if you are a good person, and you do things right why do you have to accept god in to your life as they say. God should be willing to step into you life cause you are doing good, but he does not this is a god that wants you to get down on your knees and beg for him to come into your life. I dont know why it is this way, god wants to be needed. Maybe god has a chip on his shoulder.
