as we all know ,nearly every family owns at least one television. so many people spent large amount of time before watching soap operas. there is a disscussion today in my class. many students say it's a silly thing to watch tv, because it is so easy that you hardly need to think about anything but watching it.
do you agree

I own a TV, but only use it for DVDs. It's not attached to an aerial. Last time I visited my doctor, we chatted and I discovered that he doesn't have a TV, so is in much the same situation.
TV itself is not stupid. Quite often, my partner comments that I know lots of strange little facts or useful bits of information and most of them have come from watching TV programs, films and so on. It depends very much on what you watch! I remember someone calling MTV 'chewing gum for the eyes' and 'the shiny things network', insinuating that - like chewing gum does with the mouth - it keeps the eyes active but provides no nourishment, no content.
Choose what you watch: there's often something to learn and the time isn't wasted.

Errr...no. Well, that depends on what you watch in tv. If you allow the networks to waste your time watching silly soaps, then that's a when i'd consider watching tv silly. Why watch soaps when there are a lot of other educational shows and channels on tv? Like the Discovery channel, Animal planet, National Geographic channel, Discovery Travel and living channel, History channel, Crime and investigation network, and some educational shows for kids on Playhouse Disney. It really is just a matter of how the veiwer chooses the shows he watches. We've had TV at home since i was a kid and me and my family never watched soaps. My parents regulated TV wathing to educational channels and movies and shows we could all watch as a family. And that kind of discipline stuck to me as a grew older. Sure i' sometimes watch Oprah or Ellen talk shows but i watch them coz i somehow learn something from them. Soaps never attract me. My TV is usually always on animal planet.
So i say watching tv is not a silly thing to do. It's a matter of what you choose to watch. Watching soaps when there are other more relevant shows to watch is the silly thing to do.
