Hello fellow mylotters,
There have been quite a few times when I forgot to turn off the gas cooker in the kitchen after cooking, but fortunately I don't forget to turn off the gas tank as I always turn off the gas tank first before I turn off the gas cooker. I made the same mistake again this morning, (November 13th, 2008). I didn't notice it until when I went to the kitchen just now to do some cooking. I blame myself a lot for this carelessness of mine. I must always remember to turn off both the gas cooker and the gas tank for the sake of safety.
So have you ever forgotten to turn off the gas cooker or the gas tank after using it?
Thank you so much for your response in advance, my dear follow mylotters.
Good day and take care, friends.
Love from williamjisir

I never forget to turn off the gas cooker. However, my gas tank is left on, unless I am on long vacation. May be we have different cooking gas system or different habit. That's why we turn off the different switch. But I think it's all right as long as you turn off one of them. Besides, I always leave my windows open, even at night, so the gas will escape even if I forget to turn off the gas switch. After reading your post, I will be more careful. Thanks and have a nice day williamjisir!

Hi good morning williamjisir, what he said is right. And we should always have the good practice of turning off the gas tank and gas stove whenever not in use. It's actually a good precaution to prevent unwanted things to happen. It's very dangerous to have gas leakage in the house especially those who live alone. It's even worse if a house in a condensed and heavily populated living area caught fire. Thanks for the good advice and reminder, I will keep a good practice from now on. Have a great time in Mylot and happy posting!

Good evening, cheongyc. I was told by the person from fire brigade, who gave us a lesson in our school last year that we need to turn both of them off to avoid unnecessary disasters from happening because if we just turn off the gas stove, there is still some gas left in the gas pipe. So he said that it is safer to always turn off both of them. It sounds reasonable to me though. Good night, friend.

Yeah, I have experienced a situation like that and I tell you, the house maid nearly set our building on fire-we were helped quickly by neighbors and we were very lucky it was weekend-if it were a week day, am sure we would have returned from work to find our house and everything in ashes! I thank God it did not happen

I can see why you will forget to do so. As you have a very good wife and therefore you don't get used to do the housework:) Since we use the gas pipe here, so I don't have to turn it off. Usually I just turn off the gas cooker and that is all. If we will leave home for several days, then we will turn off the switch of the gas pipe. We will stay at home as long as we cook something. It's too dangerous to leave when it's cooking. Therefore, I don't think we will forget to turn off the gas cooker.

Good evening, youless. Thank you so much for your nice comment about my loved wife. Yeah, she is very careful and a capable partner of mine. In fact, my wife often asks me if I have turned off both the gas tank and the gas stove after using it and before going to sleep at night. I will be more careful next time. Enjoy yourself, youless.

Hi william. How are you?
As long as I can remember, I have never forgotten to turn off the gas stove. I'm very careful with it especially when I'm a bit paranoid, thinking it might explode on me. I not only remember to turn it off, I even check it two to three times if I did turn it off already. Eversince having seen a woman in the news who had 3rd degree burns all over her body because of an accident with her gas stove.
You are certainly right to always check if the gas stove is already turned off because accidents happen all the time. And it pays a lot to be more careful and alert.

i used to utilize gas cooker but i decided to replace it with electric stove.. it's convinient for condo dwellers like me as it saves a lot of space plus the fact that you don't have to worry about the gas tank and all.. all you need to do is to unplug your electric stove and voila, you can get out of the house with no worries.. another reason why i shifted to electric stove is that i had a bad experience with gas tank when i was little.. our gas emitted smoke after turning it off.. yay!

Once my mother forget to close both the cylinder and burner. After that incident i daily check it in the night before going to sleep. There is always some risk in cooking gas,if we not handle it properly. If person in the house hold responsibility for it,then it is very good.

Hi William!
How are you doing?
Hope you have grown after this discussion. I am very careless as well but since I do not cook often our maid makes sure to do that after I finish exhibiting my culinary skills.
My mom, however, is particular in this. She is very methodical and remembers minute stuffs.

I guess it's a common mistakes we have always encounter. I sometimes do the same.
Though I hardly go to the kitchen and do the cooking. It's always our helper to the thing for us and my hubby sometimes for he loves to cook. ^_^

I used to quite often forget to turn the cooker off after using it! I used to get told off for it by my hubby but I did not do it on purpose I just used to forget. Now I make sure I turn it off before I take the food out of it just so that I know that I have done it.

Our neighborhood... the house next to us. The whole house got burned and our house almost burned. We packed all our things and gathered them outside the house. Thank God that nothing got burned except for some parts of the roof. It is still ok. Nothing happened to us.

Hello plumwish. Yeah, I did because of my negligence, but it is relieving that I turned off the gas tank though not the gas stove. I discovered this only when I turned on my gas tank. Then I smell the bad smell of the gas released from the stove when I turned on the gas tank. I was too careless and should be blamed for this for it is so dangerous. I will be more careful from now on. Thank you for your response, dear friend. Take care.

I also experienced that. But since I have children already, i switched to electric stove. To make it safe. Because they say, if we are using gas stove, there is a high risk of getting sick or accident. Sick because gas evaporates & might be inhales. Accident because when we forget to turn it off, and someone creat fire, it might explode.

Hello izathewzia. Either we use electric stove or gas stove, we need to be careful with them because either of them could be a danger to us if it is not properly used. Yes? I am also trying to be more careful with my gas stove and gas tank. Good day to you, friend.

Thankfully, everyone here in our house is very careful about the gas range. Admittedly however, whenever I'm the one in charge of the kitchen, like when I'm boiling something, I tend to forget about it until I could smell something burning. It has happened a number of times already and I kick myself a lot after that.
