yes. an lcd monitor uses around 5 watts of power, whereas a crt monitor uses around 100 watts. moreover, the lcd screen gives sharper image and is brighter. even in terms of the display area, an lcd screen of 15 inch is equal to a crt screen of 17 inch. the drawbacks with lcd are that its screen resolution can't be changed. once u buy it, you are stuck with its resolution, whereas the resolution in crt can be changed as per your conveniences.also, and lcd screen is costlier. a good thing with lcd is that it doesn't have any refresh rate problem, which is there in crt screens. so an lcd screen is less prone to flickering , and so, it is not harmful for the eyes. it also doesn't have electromagnetic radiations. just keep one thing in mind if you choose to buy lcd, that is whether it has a passive matrix display or an active display. the passive lcd is cheaper , but then it has lesser transistors in it, and so the quality is lesser than that in active. most of the cheaper laptops have passive display, while costly laptops have active lcd's. lastly, observe carefully the type of lighting that you have in your room. a monitor that looks really good in the shop might just look dull or bad quality when u put it in your room. this is cause the lighting in your room also matters in viewing the image on the screen.

LCD monitors have various benefits over Crt.. They consume less power, they dont radiate harmful radiations so are good for eyes, they occupy very little space and now they are cheap.. The disadvantages are.. that they cannot reproduce that much good colors, and the contrast ratio ai'nt that good.. that means in LCD black is'nt actually black its dark grey..
