why does sunlight lighten our hair but darken our skin?

why does sunlight lighten our hair but darken our skin? i am really easy to become black... so sad..

Our bodies protect us from the rays of the sun. Our skin darkens as a reaction to the ultraviolet rays. Stay away from the sun and your skin would lighten. I am so dark now but only the exposed portions like my arms. Cheers!!
