99designs is a great website! crowd-sourcing for logos is a really cool idea, and I've been participating for the last few months. skills are definitely required though, as there are some seriously talented designers on that site. as someone who loves design, I'm absolutely fascinated by what clients like and don't like in regard to their logos. clients rate each design on a scale of 1-5 stars, so you can scan through and see the results. so far, from what I can tell, people absolutely love slick "web 2.0-style" logos! So many of those win every time.
