Haha..that's really funny that people ask this kind of questions as our purpose there is already so obvious. Just like there was one time, i'm having my meal, then my friend came and asked me: 'what are you doing here?' Come on, couldn't she see that i was eating? But i think perhaps sometimes people don't know how to start a conversation first, then just simply ask a question.

i like this response, iamcucu. that should have caused the waitress to let up a laugh or a smile at least. if some people in search for laughs are around, you could have caused a raucous laughter then.

I always tend to believe that there is no stupid question. A question might sound stupid to the listener but to the asker it is not. People asks questions cause they want to know about something, they want to get your attention or want to reconfirm something. Maybe your husband just want to talk to you, maybe he simply wants your guidance in everything so he will ask you about everything just to let you know your input means a lot to him.

Perhaps you are right :-) I just asked him whether it's true that he just wants to get my attetion and guidance. He said yes. He said I'm always too focus on doing this, i'm totally ignore him, ok, doesn't mean ignore, just i'm very into what i'm doing. But for me, it seems like in this situations, he is lazy to find the things or not that aware of the surroundings. And this make me mad. ;-) I'm not a patient person for him.

Stupid questions deserve stupid answers!!!
Like the pots and pans example you used. My almost 2 year old daughter knows where the pots and pans are. But my 32 year old husband doesn't! Or my daughter knows that the spagtti strainer goes in with the tupperware NOT with the pots and pans. But where does my husband put it? In with the pots and pans!! So when he asks me where some thing in the kitchen goes I tell him to ask his 2 year old!!!
How about this - I was at a resturant and put my credit card on the check and gave it to the waitress. She said are you paying your bill? Ummm yes I am. HELLO

Oh you got me. I thought you were going to ask if there are stupid questions or stupid answers. I was going to say, "stupid answers", but then I read your post and I realize the answer is - stupid questions! LOL My husband does the same exact thing! Does yours get mad if you point out to him what a dumb question this is? LOL!

In that case I would like to say the question is a rhetoric one because he knows the answer already howver my teacher in school used to say there is no stupid question. Her premise is that it may sound stupid to you but it could really clear up concept for the person asking.Sometimes too in class the question that seemed stupid initially helped to clear up misunderstanding for the others as well.Like you I dont have patience many times for questions like that but I try to bear this in mind. However in response to your husbands question, what if it turned out the pot in question wasnt in the cupboard where it is usually held but in the sink ,then his question might not seem so "stupid"or rhetoric.
My mother would have said go look under my bed if you see the pot ,so I guess thats the "stupid" answer for the question.lol and I would have gone in the bed room adn come back out go the cupboard and say see mom I found it where you said lol but I am drifting now ---forget this last part

:) I always say that: "A stupid question deserves a stupid answer!".
Instead of repeating where are those pots, shout out something what he does not expect to hear! Say: I heard how mouses played "Never Let You Go" song in the attic! I did not want to disturb them as they were indeed-very talented in what they were doing up there!
Unless he does have a bad memory and might take your answer as an insult. :(
Anyway: be careful when You decide in Your mind: is a question stupid or not.
A question like: "Can I ask You a question?" Should deserve an answer like: "...I don`t know...CAN YOU?". ;)

I think overall, many people will be like this. There is not much that you can do either. Sometimes it is just because they have forgotten where you have put something, or even better yet, waiting to see how your reaction will be when they ask a question like this as well. I think overall there is not much we can do to keep this from happening as well.

oh, i know what you are talking about, lulumartin. i believe that somehow most of us indulges in this.
like i ask my son, where is the nailcutter? i am already in the box where we keep these little things but i could not lay my eyes on the thing that quick so, i utter those words hoping that by doing so the object will pop up faster before my very eyes. truth is, i do not even expect any answer for the question. however, my son replies, it is just there. without even taking a look at what i am doing or where i am located.
funny, yes, but it happens so often in the house.

Well some people like to ask those kind of questions. Not sure whether they realize it's a stupid question or not. For example, when I went to the library and met my friend there, he asked me what I was doing there. To me, it's a stupid question as of course, you go to the library to study or doing research.
Well, some people tend to ask those questions as a way of striking a conversation with you.

Most men are like that. Like my husband asks for his socks everyday and yet he knows where we keep them. Just understand your husband and answer him where the pots are heheheheeeeeeee. Maybe he just misses talking to you and attracts your attention by that. Others can ask you, "you mean its raining outside?" and the only thing he can do is look outside and see it rain.
