I don't know how to send a text message. I have looked online for the manual for my phone and downloaded it, but it was jibberish, so I'm not sure what I did wrong there. Anyhow, can anyone help me? I have a motorola i710 with Sprint. Thanks. And thanks for not laughing at me.

There's no reason to be embarrassed. At one point, my mother actually didn't know how to operate a gas pump. She used to ask me to fill her car up with gas because she wasn't too sure. There are other times that I didn't know how to do things that my 8 year old daughter had to teach me how to do, lol... That being said, I believe model I710 is actually a Nextel phone, when they were called Nextel. It's black phone with small silver speaker at the bottom of the flip when it's closed, right? Only reason I know is because I used to work at a cell phone place for about a year & that was the one of the most popular phone I used to sell. If I'm not mistaken, right above the "end" key, which is in red, there should be a power button. Right above the power button, slightly to the left of it, there should be a button that corresponds to what's on your screen that says "mesg"... Push that! Then the screen should bring you to your phone book list, if my memory serves me correctly... That's where you pick the person you wanna send the message to... Scroll up or down until the name of the person to whom you wanna send the message to lights up, or highlighted, then press the center button that says, "ok"... Then type away... That's what I remember... I could be few steps off here because I had many different phones since I had Nextel phones... Good Luck!!!

Yes, that's the phone. When I select the name from my contacts list, then push ok, it shows me the phone number. The only other option is edit. I am getting frustrated with this. And I can't find the manual. Thanks for trying.

Ok, I just found the manual, and it turns out this phone can't send text messages, it can only receive them. Now I know why it was so cheap.

Really? That's interesting. I have to look back into this. I don't remember that phone not being able to send text message. I710 & I730 should be the same phone, except for the I730 comes with caller ID out side of the flip. And I830 also is same phone as those 2. They just took the I730's inside guts out & put it into a smaller frame & casing. All the software in those 3 phones should be the same. I had I830 & I could send text messages if I remember correctly. I believe it has something to do with internet or data plan type or something close to it. I'll try to remember & look into this & will get back to ya.

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia, Its easy to do, just pull up messages and go to the tab labeled "create" and then thumb your way through it, that was a half joke. Then tab up and enter the phone number or e-mail address you want to send it to, then hit send, viola! Don't worry I'm not laughing, we all have to start somewhere.

Thanks for your help. Problem is, I go to messages and there is no option to create. There is only memory and delete. What am I missing?

I just figured out what I am missing. I found the manual and it turns out that this phone can't send text messages. I'm annoyed, but feel better. At least it's not because I'm too thick to figure it out.

Unfortunately I don't have that model Did you contact the person whom you have bought it from? I hope that you managed to get hold how to send a text message since it has been four weeks that you have posted your question. © ronaldinu 2008

You should know that there's NO reason to feel embarrassed. Do you know why I say this? Because nobody who was just born could grab a phone and text message other people without learning it. I'm not that good with phones either but I will try to help you. On most phones you can go to a menu. From this menu you have other icons like "options, messages, phonebook" etc. There has to be something like "contacts" where you can see other people's numbers. Usualy from there you can set up a message. I'm sorry if I don't really help... it's too difficult for me to explain really but I'm sure someone else can help you with it. Or you could ask some teens, they are definately good with this. Have fun!! :)

Thanks. I just found the user manual and it turns out this phone can't send text messages. I'm bummed, but that explains why I couldn't figure out how to do it.
