Be honest while answering this " have you ever prayed when you are'nt in trouble or dont need anything ? " 99 % of the replies might be a no and on top of that sometimes when god does not listen to us we say that god is'nt there . We guys don't thank him rather we critisize him , and then we tell our children that they should pray too ! Even god must be saying " how mean ? " !

there are actually 5 types of prayer: praise and adoration, penitence, petition, thanksgiving, and intercession. the majority of us do the petition prayer where we ask for something. a long long time ago i realized that my mom did that a lot. when something would start to go wrong she would sit in bed with her bible and pray. and every year she resolves to do this less and less and to go to church more often but she never does. i thought to myself that that wasnt something that i wanted to do in my life. so i found myself thanking god for letting me enjoy the warm weather, a beautiful evening sky, being able to watch the leaves change, good loving friends, and an interesting path in life, and you know what? it feels good to notice how many things we have to be thankful for. i remember doing the intercession prayers when i was younger,id pray for god to help whoever i thought needed it most, be it a friend, a family member or the world in general. i dont know why i dont do that prayer as much any more. but it is true that we tend to pray a lot more when we're in a mess. but in the end i think we have more control over how the majority of things work out in our lives. i dont need god to help me if i studied for a test. i dont need him to help me lose weight or to have normal things happen to me. but either way i thank him for being there even as just an ear to listen to my petty problems.
