They call it “The Greatest Show On Earth”, I call it the most expensive. Tickets are cheap but once you’re inside the door you might have to choose between their college fund or food and licensed junk that they’ll only use once. We had a good time though, when is the last time you went to the circus?

1970's huh, I'm sure a box of popcorn was $73.00 dollars then too.

I know what you mean by expensive, my sister took her kids to the circus there in Tulsa a few weeks ago and she said it was expensive. I can't remember what she said the prices for food was, but it was outrageous, even for drinks. I think she said by the time they got out of there, they had spent about 60 bucks. I wanted to go but didn't get a chance, its been years since I've been to the circus, since I was in grade school and that was 25 yrs. ago..lol.

I do not even remember when for sure. I did have a seminar with circus performers once, about ten years ago.

The last time I went to the Circus was when my children were small or was it earlier? I hated it. Oh I love the acrobats, and the trapeze artists, and the dogs that jumped on the horses, and the ladies who rode the horses, but I do not like clowns. They are downright scary. Of course watching a Perry Mason Movie about a killer clown and seeing the movie "Killer Clowns from outer Space" did not help any.

I don't know if I saw "It" I don'[t think so. I am inclined to avoid scary movies especially before going to bed. I have these rather vivid dreams.

I've got another discussion about clowns, nope don't like em' either. I saw the movie "It", that really didn't help. Plus the clown in FX, nope, that didn't help either.

I live in FL where they have the Ringling Art institute, Art Museums, and Ringling Circus Memorabilia Museum. And can you believe, I've not been there? I've heard these places are fantastic and they are only about 1 hour from my house, I need to get there. We planned a trip there once when a guest who's interested in art came to visit. And I got really sick with flu, so my husband ended up taking the guest. That's funny because he has very little interest in art and the trip was actually my idea! So, now he's been and I haven't!
To address your question, I cannot recall the last time I've been to a circus. In fact, I don't think I've EVER been to a circus. Is that weird? I remember taking my son to various county fairs and such that had circus-like shows, but I don't think I've ever been to the circus. Now, I feel I've missed out on something big...

Last time I went I was a kid. So it was probable at least 45 years ago. I was excited and totally amazed. They came by here last summer and I thought it would be great for the kids but we could not afford the tickets. Seemed like they were around $50 per person (I am guessing because, but I remember saying that we would have need a loan to go see it).

Wow! I haven't been to the circus since my oldest son was 2 years old! We've gone to other things like it, though, like baseball games and such... even movies!
Once inside, everything costs so much! I remember going to a baseball game with free tickets my husband had gotten from his boss. Four of us... that "free" baseball game cost us $90.00!!! A matinee movie, three of us, two of whom were children, cost $40.00!!! It's unbelieveable!
I've completely given up going to movie theaters and refuse to ever go to a baseball game or any other sports game again! The players simply earn way too much money! Someone who runs around playing with a ball 6 months out of a year and earns 5 times more money than the President of the United States does is earning WAAAAAAY too much! I refuse to help them make more.
I'd probably go to the circus again if I ever have grandchildren. It is expensive but it's so much fun and I think every child should have that memory to take with them into old age. I can still remember everything about the circus when I went at the age of seven!

I have never been the Ringling Bros circus, when they come to my city they are indoors and I have a child that will not sit in a noisy place. About 5 years ago there was a circus here that did an outdoor performance and we went to that. I'm sure that it wasn't as good as Ringling but my children really enjoyed it. I guess I'm lucky because it wasn't that expensive lol.

Oh I was still a kid when I last visited a circus. I can't even remember it well but I think it was Christmas season. Nowadays my family don't get to spend much time having fun. Everyone is busy cause everybody is working and has a lot of other things to do.
It's good that you had a great time with your kids. I think spending time with your family and the happiness you'll feel can't be compared to any amount. It is the most expensive of all expenses.
Ciao!

I remember taking our children to the circus about 15 years ago - but it upset me that the animals were being carted around the country in trucks for months and months on end. Australian circuses don't have wild animals anymore, thank goodness. I think the most they are allowed are a few ponies and dogs. I'd still rather they only had performing humans.

Personally, I call it the most cruel on earth. I refuse to go to a circus and refuse to let my children go to one. They use scare tactics and food deprivation and pain to make the animals do the things they get them to do.
It's against my beliefs and morals personally. I don't want to contribute to that on a personal level in any shape, way or form.

i use to go to this circus all the time when i was younger like every year. i use to have so much fun but it was always so packed. your right it is not that cheap all the food and stuff is so high priced, and the souvenirs all the lights and stuff. but that's how they make most of there money, recently i have been going with my aunt every year to this smaller circus with my little cousins. its still really good though.

I haven't been to a circus in probably more then 30 years. But I have never been to a Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey circus. My little sister is 7 I would love for her to be able to have that experience since she has never been either and she is the type is you tell her you don't have alot of money she doesn't ask for stuff so I would think she would be happy with a Happy Meal after or before the show. We are easy to please.

Circus? I think it's been ages since i last went for one.. ANd that it was organised by my own school, and i was even part of the stall holders.. lol =D That was during my primary school.. All i remember was, it's so fun, and with the earnings from my food stall, i split it up with my frenz, and spend it all on the games, but not winning anything in the end.. lol =D It was such a nice experience, and now thinking now, i really missed it.. hehe

I can't even remember when was the last time I was in a circus. But I went once. You are right!! ticket is cheap but when you are inside you have to buy different stuff your kids would want to have. It really cost money when you will be in a place like that.
