The US Presidential election row is over.Everything is calmed down. The problem of racism, bradely effect etc. have been discussed here in mylot too.But last day I was really appalled to read an article in the news paper that Bush and Obama having a cordial meeting to discuss the handing over of power. It was reported that when they met 4 years ago a presidential aide squirted sanitizer on Mr.Bush's hand before they shook. Was it true? In my country America is believed to be a heaven, especially for those who cherish the noble ideas of freedom and eqality of all sorts.I was really sad to know how deep rooted the racist factor is even in the minds of people belonging to the higher echelons of the society. When I read it I just thought to discuss it here. There is no intention to hurt the feelings or sentiments of anyone.Thanks.

Do not make an assumption that sanitizer has anything to do with prejudice. If it was put on Pres. Bush's hands BEFORE shaking hands the intent was to protect Mr. Obama. Maybe the president had a cold or virus. It would be good manners to not share that disease with the other person. I have even skipped shaking hands, because that is one of the fastest ways to give people what I am suffering from. For Mr. Bush to refuse to shake hands with Obama would have been rude. The hand sanitizer before is just good health practices. Let's not try to read other stuff into common practices.

I think that even though the election itself is over, things have not calmed down a bit here in the US. Things are just getting started here in regards to racism, etc. I don't think that the use of hand sanitizer implies an affront to Mr. Obama. As a regular user of hand sanitizer, I think that perhaps it was just a polite precaution for both of the gentlemen... and perhaps Mr. Bush uses hand sanitizer regularly before shaking hands as a way to help stay healthy.
