as i remembered, my father used to tell me that reading can help me to smarter than the other students of my age. at first i am not into reading i just like to hear my teacher teach and jot down notes. one time i have purchases a magazine, there is a lot of articles involving different topic from then on i finally realize what my father had told me.... since then i always read almost everything. and it helps me a lot. Its not only the learning about what you read, its the outcome of reading. when you read it will give you knowledge which you can apply with your daily lives... now i have my own business to 6take care of and from reading i have apply the do's and dont's and the startegy that can make life and business more easier... thanks to my father and the BOOKS that i read...

I believe with your father imee012613. In reading, you will learn although not all but still it will give you insights about certain things. You will not be ignorant about everything. You can learn in school but still it's not enough and I don't think that you will remember all the things that have been taught in school. Reading can help us review and recall all the things that we have learned in school. It also helps us to contribute to the discussions or conversations because you have learned it from reading.

Reading is a very useful skill. When we are little, we learn to read; when we mastered the skill, we read to learn. Aside from other methods, reading is one way to expand one's knowledge. Books are a treasure trove of ideas that one can learn and appreciate. Furthermore, for readers like me, reading brings plenty of enjoyment. Since I read fiction predominantly, it gives me a change to escape the humdrum of daily existence and for a few brief hours spend some time in a magical world created by words and an author's imagination. So yes, there are plenty of benefits in reading, but if you ask me personally...I use it mainly for entertainment.

I love to read and I think i have a vast knowledge on different things because I read. I had customers coming in asking questions about books they should read and I am able to give them a detailed explanation about the books and authors themselves. I love reading anything, but lately I have been reading CHristian related books like Christian fiction and Christian living like Facing Your Giants and The Love Dare.

I love Christian Fiction. Have you read Ted Dekker's SHowdown? I am in the middle of reading it right now and I totally love it! IT is so well written and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Absolutely. Reading is learning without having someone else tell you new things, in the way that teachers do. My folks always encouraged me to read and everything, ever since I was a kid and was learning how to read. And now, every time I finish a book or something, I chose another one and start reading that. I can't really remember a time, when I wasn't in the process of reading something.

Oh yes reading helps a lot, it helps you gather more infos, increase your vocabulary and enrich your knowledge. By reading you can relate on topics you encountered on discussions. You become updated to what's going on, build your confidence when it comes to knowhow and answering random questions. Reading really is the best background for communicating and writing skills. So, reading is the best thing to do during spare times...I agree Reading is Knowledge and Knowledge is Power...

It was my father too who encouraged me to read lots and lots of books, newspapers and magazines. When I was younger I can remember myself poring over a Webster's compact dictionary. I can't remember why I did it but I finished the book. I have also developed a love for novels which was the 'in' thing in our high school class back then, so that helped a lot too. Right now though, due to time constraints I don't read books as often as I use to but I found out that the internet is as informative as a good book, sometimes even better. I'm really glad I developed this love for reading as it has helped me a lot of times already, even with having conversations with different people.

Amazing words of wisdom from your father! It is so true that you can learn an awful lot from what you read. It can also be a great escape from the realities of daily life. There are times that reading can get to be too much. My daughter was this way for a long time. She lost some friendships over the fact that she read so much that she neglected her friends. She is alot better now. Keep in mind that knowledge will never harm you but be careful with what you do with the knowledge you learn. Many people over the years have done harmful things to others from what they have learned by reading. Some intentional and some not intentional, just be careful. Props to your father, he seems to be a very wise man.

We really get our knowlege by reading. But as of now, we have many resources to get information like TV, radio, etc. But reading is not enough. Application is needed.

Reading only is not enough, there are lots of knowledge base books, magazine, periodicals which we read and like but the knowledge we got from book should be applied in our daily life then we can call ourselves as smart. You have applied the knowledge in you business and follow your fathers saying thats enough

Yes,I agree with you! Reading is knowedge, and books are the ladder of human progress. From reading, I know how to differ from good and bad, what should do or not, and how to do. I like reading ,not just that refers to my job,but also literature, art and so on.The more you read, and the more you know!

I agree with what many have said on this thread - Reading is knowledge. ^_^ By reading books, we are not only expanding our vocabulary (I believe that reading has helped me a lot in this) and learning about literature, but we're also learning about what the characters think and why they take certain courses of action - of course, some works are fiction, but that doesn't mean we can't read into them and analyze it. =) By reading magazines, we are learning about the world. Even though it may not seem important at the moment, we remember a lot of things from reading articles and they come back to us later in life. I can't remember how many times I remembered an article I read in the newspaper and said, "Oh, I know that!" when someone was talking about it. As you said, we can use this knowledge. We apply it to various situations, like businesses. It always comes back to us. I think that reading is knowledge, which also explains why all our teachers forced us to read at one point. xD
