Does anyone know how to download movies from the internet?

I love movies and was thinking that it would be great if I could download movies from the internet and watch them through my pc. Is that possible? I tried several sites on the net, but they did not work. If you know of a site that works and I can watch movies (comedies, animations etc), please let me know. Thanks in advance.
