I do! it drives me crazy. I have almost been hit several times by someone driving while on a cell phone. Have you ever had to honk your horn when the light turns green and the person on the cell phone doesn't move? How can you pay attention to the road if you are talking on the phone?

I absolutely agree-it should banned.
I know there are laws and fines in certain states/towns, but what would REALLY make a difference is if police started restricting driver's licenses and actually TAKING cell phones away from people. I wish they take them both and those people wouldn't get them back for at least 5 years.
That's how much I hate it when people talk while driving.

Oooo, I like that! People would respond to that ALOT more-if you said it was the same as getting a DUI.

you know it, sound like a good idea to me. It needs to be punished as bad as a drunk driver. Thanks for your story!

Studies about cell-phone use while driving have focused on several different aspects of the problem. Some have looked at its prevalence as the leading cause of driver distraction. Others have looked at the different risks associated with hand-held and hands-free devices. Still others have focused on the seriousness of injuries in crashes involving cell-phone users and the demographics of drivers who use cell phones

In Italy it's illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving and keeping the phone by hand: using a hands-free car kit or a headset is legal. I think they should be all illegal because all of them cause distraction.

I saw an episode of a German policemen series (Cobra 11) in which a business man was driving on the freeway talking to the phone: he was going at about 100 kph when he began the call and he reached 180 kph while talking, then he crashed against a car and flew to maybe 50 meters above the road and felt down to the ground smashing his car. It was impressive! I think a spot with that scene would make some people think twice before calling while driving.

Absolutely yes, at least while holding the phone. Headsets and blue tooth at least allow the driver to keep both hands concentrated on the wheel, which I think helps keep the head there too. But really, it would be preferable if the phone conversations waited for home. We all survived before cell phones, didn't we?

Yes we did. I don't understand why its more important to talk on the phone than to concentrate on your driving!

Yes I do. I haven't been hit by someone while they are talking on the phone, but it is very annoying how the speed limit is 45 and they are doing 30 and I am stuck behind them. Or how the light turns green and you have to sit there until it is about to turn yellow because the person in front is on the phone not paying any attention.
It should be banned. I thank God that me or anyone in my family has not been in an accident by someone who was on the phone, but I get to see or hear on the news of all the fatal accidents of people that were hit by someone who was on the phone. And too me, it doesn't matter if you have the "hands free" headset or not, either way your attention is taken away from driving and anything can happen.

I agree I think that cell phones should be banned while driving I mean I have sen plenty of times when drivers are not paying attention to what they are going because of talking on their cell phone.

Yes absolutely. YOu cannot concentrate on driving while calling. Driving demands full concentration. One should not be allowed to put others life in danger.

I definently think it should be banned. People don't pay full attention to the road, they get carried away with their conversation and they cause accidents. I think there should be a huge fine for people who drive and talk on cell phones. I have actually seen articles where people on their cell phones haven't paid attention and hit people. I read an article a few years back about a woman who was so busy yacking on her phone she swerved on the sidewalk and hit a small child, it killed the kid.

YES! On base, it's banned except if you have a headset and only in civilian vehicles. No talking on cells in a government vehicle unless it's parked and off. Compared to past months, the base has been much safer. There was even an incident where two airmen were talking on their cells and crashed into each other. And they went even driving! One was walking/running and the other was either on a bike or roller blading. Can't remember.
