The love of money

I did not post this under religion because I don't think it belongs there. I do however want to note that the Bible says that "the love of money is the root of all evil". Be that as it may, I am often shocked over people's attitude towards money. I know a family that may not be millionaires, but are certainly well off financially. A few years ago the father passed away and as he had no arrangements made, there was a big scene about who was going to pay for the funeral. The reason I quoted from the Bible is because this family consider themselves quite religious and attend church faithfully twice every week. The mother is now over 80 and the children are all concerned about what she will leave them in her will. Does this make sense to anyone? How is it possible to be so wrapped up in money? Blessings.

A very wise man, E. F. Schumacher said, If human vices such as greed and envy are systematically cultivated, the inevitable result is nothing less than a collapse of intelligence. A man driven by greed or envy loses the power of seeing things as they really are, of seeing things in their roundness and wholeness, and his very successes become failures. If whole societies become infected by these vices, they may indeed achieve astonishing things, but they become increasingly incapable of solving the most elementary problems of everyday existence. Our culture has glorified money for so long, to the point of glorifying greed and expediency and unethical and immoral means to become rich, that we are almost deviant if we don't chase money in the way you've described. We seem to use money as a means of defining who we are. But people who do that are, to my mind, non-people. Lash

I've heard this argument before, and it does make sense (no pun intended, lol, cents and money) Really, no matter how much money you have, if you don't have faith, family, friends, and general happiness, you aren't...happy! Can't buy me love, as the Beatles say. I know some families who are pretty religious, and yet they are too concerned about how much money they can get... Having money is not a bad thing, don't get me wrong. If you earned your money, then all the power to you. It's just how you perceive life and how you yourself look at the world. If you are always craving more money...somethings wrong.

Hi dxfanatic, Yours is an excellent comment, thank you. There is nothing wrong with money but if we put it before family and friends and make it the top priority in our life than something is wrong. Blessings.

That's the reason why some people think badly of Christians. They are always people around who do not breach what they say. There are also some people who are just born stingy. No matter what religion they belong to, they can't seem to bear with their money. In the above case, isn't it logical to split the cost evenly? Why do they even need to point fingers at one another. That, I really can't understand either. We only live a lifetime. Money is something we can't bring with us. We should be making money work for us and not the other way round.

Money is the root for all evils but everybody in this world needs money. I mean it is a requirement for living a good life. And there can be no life without money. So i dont think that you should blame money for all the evil things happening all around. It actually depends on the intension of an individual. Like you mentioned that everyone is worried in the family about what will her mother leave for their children. This is the problem with the intension of the children. This was the job of the parents of that family to teach them proper ways of living a life. If you blaim all on money i mean the reason for the evil, then everyone in this world could have turn into a thief and done evil things to get money. So I think the intension of the person plays and important role here

If you claim that everyone in the world needs money to have a good life, how then can you explain the families that have no money at all, but have a great life. Your quality of living and what you want in life determines how good of a life you have. Not how much money you have. Just remember that with God and Jesus all things are possible including happiness without money. God will let you have a good life, maybe not a rich living life in the way you would want, but remember to let your Fathers will be done and not yours.

Hi rizzu87, Thank you for your comments. Money is not the root of all evil, it is the love of money. We all need money but we should not put it before our family and friends. Blessings.

well as you mentioned that a family who has nothing at all can live up happily. Offcourse they can but that is there attitude towards life that they want to show everyone that they are happy. Actually they can never be happy without money. Like everybody wants to buy different things to make life better. Its their positive thinking and attitude towards which makes them happy. For example.. if you are really poor GOD forbid, you would want to show everyone that you are happy and do not need anything. But when at times you will feel really bad from inside that you cannot do anything about you unlimited wants. But if your intension is good and you only want money from the right way. Your life will go fine. I have put this thing on you purposely so that you can put yourself in that place and think over it. keep mylotting, and be happy. thank you

as the saying goes"with an increase of wealth, the desire of wealth increase."sometimes, the greed of money is dangerous,it can drive people lose their sense, break their hearts and cause them to hate and even kill.so we should keep our head awake and adopt correct attitude towards the money ,after all,the family is the most important thing.

It does not make any sense to me. Malta is a catholic country but you cannot imagine how many families were broken and fought bitterly over money. I love my parents and I dread the time when we have to say goodbye. What I have I managed to get it with my own work and I dont expect money from others. © ronaldinu 2008

Hi mssnow, Thank you for your comments and you are correct. Many people say that money is the root of all evil, which of course is incorrect. It is rather the love of money, and it is when we put money above family and friends and make it the only focus of our life that we become like the people I mentioned. Some people are poor but want money so badly that they would kill for it. I completely agree with your response. Blessings.

I don't understand how families can act this way. At a time that they are worried about their inheritance, they should be trying to spend their last moments with their mother. Learning all they can from her, and making her as comfortable as possible in her last days. Its not even the love of money that is evil. Money helps us survive and enjoy life. Its when the love goes into excess, when you begin to shut out other aspects of life that are also important, that is when that love becomes evil. Anything to excess is detrimental.

These greedy individuals should be concern about learning how to produce their own money instead of waiting for their mom to leave them money. Money is a good thing if we used it in a productive way because we can help a lot of charities if we have plenty of money. If we love money more than people that's when money becomes evil.

yeah, The love of money is the root of all evil..I agree with this..this is really true. with money you can do everything..with money you can buy everything you want..money makes us the world of everything but without money we are not in good mood. people always seek for money for the poor is for their basic needs like food but for the rich one..more money for their beauty enhancement and the like.

Family comes first. But We all have a fear of poverty, or at least, of facing a standard of living that would be less than what We are comfortable with. The problem is We always want more, and then find it harder to afford what We have.
