...because she's a woman! Let's see here, am I the only one who thinks that seems a bit - SEXIST??
http://www.politico.com/blogs/michaelcalderone/
According to McCain campaign manager Rick Davis, in an interview with
National Review editor Rich Lowry:
On putting Palin out in big, hostile network interviews at the beginning: “Our assumption was people would not let us release her on Fox or local TV.”
On the Couric interview, which Davis says Palin thought would be softer because she was being interviewed by a woman: “She was under the impression the Couric thing was going to be easier than it was. Everyone’s guard was down for the Couric interview.”
(End of excerpt)
Everyone's guard was down? Does anyone have any idea what they may have expected?

Maybe she expected Katie to want to talk about moose recipes or raising kids.
The opinion that an interview with Couric would be soft is not only sexist but an insult to the seasoned professional newsperson that she is in the position she holds. As with so many other things in that campaign I have to ask, what were they thinking?

"She would have if it were Michelle Obama..."
Why would she talk to Michelle about moose recipes? On the other hand, since Michelle is the future First Lady and wasn't running for anything herself, why would she talk to her about things like foreign policy and how she formed her world view?

Yes, because a Presidential candidate's wife should get asked the same questions as a Vice Presidential nominee.
Totally. That makes PERFECT sense.
Oi.

I personally would have expected the interview harder with Katie than say a male interviewer. I mean Katie could have asked hard questions and not looked like she was a sexist pig. It was just a woman interviewing a woman. Most of the questions she really didn't answer so I'm not sure why she is complaining about them. Do you think she ever watched Walters interview people? I don't think I would want to sit through one of her interviews. lol

Great point, Zephyr. Especially with that gang a male reporter really had to be careful or he'd have been considered a sexist pig and a bully!
Hey, maybe Barbara will try and get Sarah for her big Oscar night show! Yeah, I'll bet that will happen...lol!

When I read this my eyes popped and my eyebrows raised. Softer? What would she have done if confronted by one of the world leaders?

Sheesh, since when is asking someone what magazines they read a hard question? Also, what an insult to woman journalists to assume that the questions would be softer because the interviewer was a woman. Please go away, Sarah, your fifteen minutes are over.

I heard that last night. I was surprised, because anytime someone said something against her during the campaign, they were automatically a sexist. Honestly, I think the interview was really easy. I mean, how hard is it to tell someone what newspapers you read?

I don't know if it was because she was a woman that Palin expected easier questions from Couric, but perhaps it was because she thought the interview would be an easier and more convivial affair.
What i've learnt in life though is that if you think something will be relatively easy and let your guard down, you get a nasty surprise. But that on the other hand if you think it will be difficult and get quite anxious about it, you then find out that the situation is nearly always not as bad as you thought it would be.
I suspect this interview was a case of Palin letting her guard down and being caught napping...

I just can't imagine what she expected! I guess probably what she got from Sean Hannity - an infomercial that wasn't paid for, unlike the one Obama did pay for that the GOP loved to make fun of.
Hannity: You told Congress "Thanks but no thanks" to the Bridge to Nowhere."
Palin: Yes, I did tell them "Thanks but no thanks".
Hannity: You're a real maverick, a reformer.
Palin: Yes, I'm a maverick, John McCain is a maverick, we're both reformers who wantd to reform everything that needs to be reformed like real mavericks do...

Ah yes Annie. So do you really expect conservatives to stop the Obama bashing and rally behind him while liberals like you just bash Palin over and over and over regardless of the fact that the election ended over a week ago? Seriously Annie. Get some new material.

Have you even looked at all the discussions in the politics interest here lately, Taskr? Give me a freakin' break, already! I'd estimate from the fir five or six pages I went through just minutes ago that at least 90% of all the posts are Obama attacks. Many of the same people who have been on my case and anyone else's who dares say anything not completely favorable toward the GOP in general and Sarah Palin in particular are still keeping up all the same hate and ugliness that's been going on for about two years.
You're right, the election has been over for over a week but Palin is still on our TV's every time we turn around. It seems she now loves giving interviews! When I post discussions in this interest I pick what I think is relevant and may be of interest. I know there are some on the right who wouldn't "rally behind Obama" to save their lives just like some on the left never gave Bush a fair chance before he totally blew it, so I'm not trying to work any miracles here. I really wish the Palin fanatics would actually respond to the topic of the discussion instead of just complaining that there's been a post made about her. Can I assume you have no opinion about the campaign dissing Katie because she's a woman?

"You're right, the election has been over for over a week but Palin is still on our TV's every time we turn around. It seems she now loves giving interviews!"
I think Palin is missing the limelight and she just wants to stay in it until everyone in America an beyond is so sick and tired of her that everytime they see her face on tv they flip the channel. Can you imagine what the converstation is at the Palin household..Palin's husband to her "honey I think you need a 12 step program your interview addiction is ruining your life you and mine." Palin all wide eyed and looking like a woman who needs a fix and can't find one,"I'm fine, just a few more interviews I need the money so I can pay off the wardrobe they loaned me"
Come on Palin it's over no one wants to see your cupcake face and cutsie attitude anymore.

There was a blatant difference in the questions asked of Obama/Biden and McCain/Palin. Obama/Biden got the fluffy bunny questions except for the one news reporter that Biden asked if she were joking.
Katie Couric imagines herself to be a hard hitting journalist, and we won't even mention the plagiarism.

It hasn't nothing to do with what questions she should have been asked. If they were going to ask hard hitting questions, they should have been asked of all.
