if you could live happily with the person of your dreams in a run down house with the smallest amount of money possible to survive or in a big fancy house with all the money you could ask for and not be as happy...which would you choose and why?

I currently live happily with the man of my dreams in a run down house with the smallest amount of money possible to survive. I've basically already made that choice. :)

You have answered it yourself in the question, who would choose to be less happy, the second option involves being less happy so of course no-one would choose it, if it just involved not having someone and being lonely it would be tougher but still no question run down house with someone you love.
