some of us are born to lead and others are born to follow but i believe that each in everyone of us has a leadership skill in us. in groups or activities would you rather lead or follow? do you like to make orders or work on those orders? please share.

This is a wonderful question! I am a natural born leader but never pursued leadership, so whenever I'm in a group, usually I become the leader. People just want to follow me and I can't help taking over. Even when I was in the Army, people who outranked me would end-up following me. It may have looked odd but it felt natural to me. My boyfriend is not a natural born leader but has been trained. He finds it very difficult to lead and is not that comfortable with it. Don't get me wrong, he can do it, it just doesn't come easily/naturlaly to him. He's an officer in the Navy and does a wonderful job of it! Happy MyLotting!

Actually, I'm never accused of being bossy (unless I'm PMSing and being unreasonable). It's difficult to explain...people just want to follow me and I'm inclined to lead them. It just happens.

I am neither a leader nor a follower but take the middle path. I have an independant outlook to life and i act according to the situation as it demands. I usually weigh all the pros and cons and then decide what to do , If i feel that i am not in a position to lead then i willingly hand the reins of leadership to those who are fit to do so and if i feel that i can contribute by taking command then i do so unflinchingly. I have an open mind on this subject and my only concern is that whoever leads should follow the right path.

hello there, thanks a lot for the post. being on the middle makes you someone who is very flexible and can always take the stead when needed to. i agree that who ever leads this person should be fitting to handle the position and can properly lead the team. have a great day!!!

i think i am both. i can be a leader but i would like it much better to work on those orders for i don't like much being in the limelight as a leader would be. but if left with no choice then i can make the orders too. one example of that is our barangay pastoral council, where i am the president and in which, i am the youngest member.

You are right kenchiprincess. There are really persons who were born to lead. In my case, I don't have the leadership skills. In school, when someone tried to chose me as a leader I suddenly said no because I don't think I can handle to be a leader. I am more of a follower and besides I even have problems in expressing myself orally that's why I went into writing. I know that being a leader, you should be a good speaker and that's not me.

I am not trying to come off as cocky but I am a leader. I do not like to follow anyones lead, especially if I do not know where it is going to lead. I have always been team leader at work, school and on any project that I work on. I have been owing my own businesses since I was 23. I never liked to work a regular job where I had to follow someone else's rules. I just did not think that I like the following thing. The only thing that I could possibly follow will be good directions.

This is a gray area for me. When I am at work I am a true leader, but when I go out with my friends I am more of leader. If there is a goal or a task to be completed, I will do whatever it takes, even if means ordering people around, to get the task or goal accomplished. Thanks to these leadership skills I possess at work, I received a promotion to a supervisor position. . . When I am with my friends I am totally laid back and I am willing to do almost whatever my friends want to do..meaning if they want to go to a movie I will agree to go, orout to dinner. I tend to not make the decisions then so that other people can have a chance to make a choice and do as they please. The only time I will interject is if I am completely opposed to something, for example, if my friends wanted to do something that was immoral I would put my foot down and not go along with them then.

I feel that I have both the qualities in me that is leading as well as following. Unless a leader knows how to follow a superior leader in right track, then how can the leader make so many people to follow a right track? So in my opinion, whatever superior leadership position one may have, it is always desired to remain teachable as well as regard for others! A good leader indeed always thinks as a serving person of many people! Thanks for this nice discussion!

I wear many hats in life. I am sometimes a leader and sometimes a follower, and that depends on which area and situation I find myself in. When I was in school, I was more a leader. I was a prefect, class monitor and a senior ranked cadet holding the post of a staff-sergeant in a uniformed society. At work, I rose up the ranks over the years to become a senior project manager, managing a variety of IT projects. But I am not an expert in every field of work, so sometimes others lead in some initiatives and I follow within a group. At home, I am the de facto leader. People in the household usually look up to me to make the major decisions. But in church, I chose to be more of a follower. I am content to sit back a little and play a support role. I am a librarian in the resource center, and I also do lots of graphics, helping my church create posters and flyers. They decide and I just do. I was asked to take some leadership positions previously but I declined. Being a leader can be both rewarding and stressful, so I think having a balance in different aspects of involvement make life more manageable.

Crisp clean logic dictates my life and if somebody is worth following, then I just might considering following this person. But in all I guess I would consider myself more of a leader or I do better by being my own individual person without following others, I'm pretty independent and strong minded. Being like this doesn't make you the most popular person in the world because most people want followers and if you are not part of the heard then you are part of the problem & sometimes not respected and often overlooked or seen as some type of threat by some people who are insecure and power hungry. I have great problem solving skills and I know how to accomplish things when I set my mind to it.

hi cassandralynn, thanks for sharing your thoughts. i believe that doesn't like to be lead by incapable and unworthy leaders, with incapable leaders this is where the conflict usually begins with. i hate to be led by a bossy leader especially if that person doesn't even know what he/she is doing but expects his/her subordinate to do it. i would be a pain to my leaders neck if that happens. LOL. have a great day!!!

Well, sometimes, I have the tendency to lead when no one is available to do the task in the group and when the one leading can not do the right thing I have to help out and maybe come up with ideas and implement it with the group. But most often when I can see that the group where I am in has a good leader, I choose to be a good follower. So, for me, it is just depend upon the situation. You are right, all of us has a leadership skill but others are not developing it. They want to just follow instead of leading.

I tend to be a leader more so than a follower... When I'm in a large group of people, I usually start out with suggesting something then sooner or later, I end up taking chage...

hi kenchiprincess! i believe that to be a good leader, one have to be a good follower. I can be a leader but I can also be a follower. depending on the situation. In some activities, I was chosen to be a leader, and I try to do the best that I can. But in some cases that someone else was picked as leader, I follow the leader as I can. I give out support and suggestion as a follower. take care

Some people may borned to be a leader. But I think the leadership can be developed . In my work as a project manager, I have to decide what should we do. And I also have to listen to my supervisor's suggestion and follow her order. So, it means that I should learn how to lead my colleagues and follow some of the order. Develop a leadership is not an easy work. I should learn how to manage the business item and cooperate well with my partner. But I believe I will do my best to improve myself. Though it's a long way to go, I have the cofidence to finish it. Keep on fighting!

I think I'm in the middle, but most of all, I'm an independent worker. =P I don't like leading others most of the time, but occasionally I'll take control of something if I feel that I can do a better job than other people. I'm not a natural born leader though. I don't really mind following, but it's not exactly to my liking because there's usually a bunch of other followers with me and it makes me feel like "one of the herd". xD Being a leader is tougher, but it means you get recognized if you do a good job. I can't really think of anyone right now, off the top of my head, that has become recognized as a "good follower". If I had a choice, I wouldn't lead others nor follow them. At school, for example, I always look forward to doing an independent project rather than a group one, because then, I'll have the freedom to make my own decisions and act the way I want. When I think of group projects, I think of a lot of organizing and compromise between different people, and to me, it seems so much easier to work on your own.

Since childhood i have always been the leader type, and can manage things exceptionally well... things that i manage are tend to do excellently well... i might sound quite a boaster type but i can say this on the basis of my past experiences.. everyone around me also says that but after my marriage this quality of mine has proved to be a trouble ... my mother-in-law suffered from cancer and i took up the responsibility of getting her treated.. i arranged for the finances, i arranger for the best doctors available and i used to take her for her daily radiotherapies and fortnightly chemotherapies, i used to look after her throughout the day, giving her medicines on time, cleaning her clothes, changing her bandages... basically everything related to her was my responsibility... everything was fine then... now she is ok.. all her reports are normal and she leads a normal life... now everyone around has a problem with this leadership thing in me.... So being a leader can have harmful effects as well.. :)

During my growing up years, I never raise my hand to be the leader. I don't really like the attention at that time. Not that I do now! Maybe because that time I don't have enough confidence to lead other people, or I was not ready to be criticized by other people if my leadership skill sucks. Even now, I don't appoint myself as leader but if I was appointed by someone else, I will gladly accept.

I think I'm sort of in the middle, I can be a leader if the circumstances need for me to lead as well as I can be a good follower too, so it depends on the situation. Yeah, I also think that each one of us has a leadership skills in us, I believe that we can lead if we have to lead a group. And also according to some, one might not be a good leader if not a good follower, you must be a good follower first so that you'll know how you can lead your subordinates.
