Before moving overseas i had a very specific diet for various reasons, and had a stomach that was used to the appropriate proportions. Coming here, i have to visit people a lot, and without fail everytime am forced to eat. Whether it be a full out meal or snack, regardless if i dont there is a problem. And i found my diet to the topic of discussion for everyone anytime i am there now. Also people ask me if i have lost or gained anything, which i am not trying to do, i just eat very healthy and dont like to put things in my body that dont get me energy or make me fell overly full, ie; pasta, bread, butter. Living in Italy these are staples, but that doesnt mean i have to eat them. I feel so much better when i do my specific diet, and it seems as though i get through the week and friday comes i start to feel amazing and there is a lunch or dinner i have to attend the next day. I am waiting now for my ride to come get me to go to a lunch, and i informed them all morning i will NOT be eating....cross my fingers. I dont get it, in America we offer food but have no problem if you dont eat, no means no.

lol Italy reminds me of how it is with middle-eastern countries and even just muslim countries lol.. it's a form of hospitality that people try to give you food and is seen as insulting if you reject their offer =P
I had that issue a lot and still do since i don't drink tea or coffee (be it arabic coffee or american).
Over time people got used to me and stopped nagging me about it as much but they do eventually get you aren't trying to be rude or anything but rather that is how it is for you.
If you stick to a certain way of eating then that is your choice not to be forced to change it but people have their own culture and own traditions lol... I highly doubt they will be okay with you going and not eating since you ARE going out to lunch. If such a situation arises again like that at the very least order a salad or something because it is awkward for you and them if you just sit there while everyone else is eating.

the more they try to feed you the more they try to express their love lol... i guess you will have to try to somewhat make exceptions =P
