Do you have a maid at home?

I don't have a maid that is why I do all the household chores. I once have a maid for a few months. When she had her vacation I told her to look for another job because I don't need her anymore.
Maids are very helpful but sometimes they cannot be trusted enough to be left at home with the child. Some maids do not take care of the child very well. Although not all maids are the same, some are rather too rough to children. I envy the maid of my brother who is so young yet very good in her services to them. She takes care of their child as if she is her very own. She is very kind and has never given my brother a problem.

I could only wish! There are 7 of us and I do the majority of the clean-up and everything else. I think the worst right now is the babes,(ages 1 tomorrow and 2 in Dec.) they drag out everything!! Very curious and just go thru everything although they also try to help, when Im going thru things which of course makes a bigger mess..lol
Truth be told the house is normally clean thou and I do enjoy watching them grow. Now if the teens would! LOL!

Hahaha....Me have a maid that is a funny one. I could never afford to get a maid. I do all the household chores by myself, and take care of our daughter. My fiance works, and I work nights. Sometimes I really do wish I had a maid though. It would be nice to have a break every once in awhile.

It's really nice to have a break but it is hard if you have a small daughter. You can hire someone to take care of her and have your break once in a while but it is hard having a stranger take care of your child.

I don't like to call her my maid, because she's my mother, she comes over once a week, and cleans my house, does the laundry and dishes and stuff like that. We pay her, we don't pay her alot but it helps her out, she just lives on disability, and anything helps, plus it helps me out too.

That's a good way for a mother to do and she also earns from you.

none.. but my mom has plans of getting one as she can no longer do all the chores at home.. She's already in her 50's and her doctor advised her to take a lot of rest since she's been suffering from high blood pressure.. getting a maid takes a lot of work too as you need to find one who's honest, kind, dependable and hard working.. I hope God would give as the perfect candidate for the position.. =)

Just a little advice from a friend. Get one who isn't so young and who comes from the country side. They usually make better maids than those who are already too exposed in the city.

Dear Masmasika,
You are right. Maids are not always welcome.
I too do not have a maid servant now. In the past we had one. But after few days she started coing iregularly. You become so depedent on these maids that life becomes difficult without them. So recently we decided todo away with her. In fact she refused to continue when we asked her to come intime & regulaly.
Now we both share the house hold work & finish it intime We need not do any extra exercise in the Gym. We save lot of hard earned mony as well

We can't afford to have a maid at this time, but I would love to have one! I would only use a maid for housecleaning, not for child care.

I don't have a maid at home. I agree that good maids are very helpful and do all the household chores. However, what if the maid you hire is bad? They steal money and worst, poison you and doing all sorts of things behind your back.
To me, I don't trust maids and for those who hire them, please be cautious.

There are the bad maids who hurt their employers but there are a few who are good. The best thing to do is what you said, be wise in hiring a maid.

I used to have maids when my children were younger. I was working then, so I needed someone to look after them. You are right, sometimes maid can be pain in the neck. If you got a good one, then you don't have to worry. But if it was the opposite, then there would be problems. I have some bad experience with maid who was not only lazy but ignorance. I asked her to do one thing and she did the other. Quite annoying but since it was difficult to get maids and also for the sake of my children, I just keep my mouth shut. But thank God, my children are all school going and since I am a full time housewife, I don't need their service anymore.

You are right. They are sometimes annoying and you have to be the one to adjust to them and teach them as well.

we have a cleaning lady that comes to our house once a week to clean. shes a great lady. once we lost our old cleaning lady because she moved back to her country, (she was amazing, took great care of me when i was a kid, was an amazing lady we miss her) it took us forever to find another maid that was trustworthy and good. and we finally found her so we're happy.
we had some that stole headache pills from us...weird. you have to be pretty skeptical about hiring a new one these days you just never know. recommendations are usually a good way to go

Having recommendations is good. You are lucky with your maid before. It's really hard specially nowadays to find a trusted person.

All moms are sort of maids in a way and that is our duty for our family. It's sometimes annoying really but it is fun doing things for the people we love. RIGHT???Cheers!!!

I know some people who have stay out maids. I think that is better because you don't have to worry about accommodation.

I dont have one, but hubby and my son seem to think they do....ME. I would love to have someone in to take care of my home, but who can afford to pay someone for something we can do ourselves, at least not in this economy.
Also i agree that some people cant be trusted, so it would be very hard for me to have a stranger come into my home as an employee and let them basically have access to all of my belongings.

In this kind of economy we are in, one needs to be very wise in spending money. If you can do the works, there's really no need to hire a maid to do them, right?

hi, masmasika.
we do not have a maid because we haven't been lucky with the ones we had.
anyway, i have cousins in our house that my parents send to school so we just divide the house chores among ourselves. we also clean our own rooms. it has been working well for a while now.
take care and have a nice day!

Usually, people take in relatives instead of other people to do the maid's work. I'm happy for what you did. You are even helping your cousins go to school. Great!!

No, I don't. I live with my parents and we usually split up the household chores on weekends. We used to have a maid for a month or two by recommendation from our neighbours, but she wasn't necessary.
As you said on the subject of taking care of children, maids are sometimes not too careful. After all, it's not their responsibility to watch over the children and be like a parent to them, they just have to sit through it and they get paid. This is a normal attitude, but it isn't the best towards the children, who, I think, should be raised by their parents and not by their maids.
Where I live, in the Middle East, many kids have maids and are spoiled because of this. Here, they often learn that their maids will do everything for them, which leads them to have poor responsibility when they mature and always expect someone to be there to do their jobs instead. I can't remember how many times in elementary school, someone said, "I don't have my homework because my maid forgot to pack it". This isn't a good trait and this is why I would only suggest very reliable maids for young children if the parents really need one.

You are right. Children must learn to do something for themselves and learn to be independent so that when they grown they learn how to live.
