I Broke Another Tooth

I don't have very many teeth left because they keep breaking! No matter what I do or how careful I am, they continue to break. This time it's my front top tooth. A big chunk of it broke off in the back and side of it so now I look like one of those freaks with broken teeth or no teeth. It costs money to have them fixed and money is what I do not have!! I'm about to tell my dentist to remove all that I have in my mouth, once and for all and just give me dentures because I'm tired of this cr@p of having to return to the dentist of this broken tooth or that broken tooth on and on. I was told it was due to having Lupus because it's attacking my teeth. I brush them every day and even use listerine to kill the germs but nothing has helped. Nothing. Yeah, I'm having a bad bad day. Can't you tell?!?! Soooo my brother is suppose to call me late this afternoon or this evening to talk out our arguement. Oh geeze, I really not looking forward to that even more so now!!

if your lupus is attacking your teeth, I'm surprised your dentist hasn't already suggested it weird Of course, everyone I know or have known with lupus have other parts of their bodies under attack.

Wow.... 50 years? Wow. It makes me wonder how they figured it out back then and what was done about it. My doctor says it's a heretitary disease but I don't know anybody in my family that has it. My dad was an only child and he was born in Idaho but moved to Virginia in his late teens to be with his dad and jobs were scarce in Idaho but in a bundance in Virginia. The rest of his family on his mom's side stayed in Idaho so if my grand aunts or uncles and what not had or have it, I don't know about it. Doesn't matter anyway because there's no cure at this time so why does it matter if I did know who had it before me. Some people want to know out of anger so they can place their anger somewhere which to me, isn't right because they didn't ask for the disease any more than I did, you know?

My dentist is the one who said it was attacking my teeth. Lupus can affect any part of the body OR every part of the body. Mine is attacking my teeth, skin and joints. It attacks the weakest part of any one's body and it's not always the same parts. It's a very strange disease and to be quite honest, I can't understand why I'm allergic to the sun, one of God's creations. It's like saying, I'm not part of God's children or flock. I know better than that but it does seep into my mind every now and then.

It might be a good idea to have them all removed and get dentures like I'm going to do. I don't have but a few teeth on both top and bottom but the bottom ones have been grinned down and caps put on them which I hate with such a passion because the caps are too tall. I tried to tell that to my dentist before we moved (Army) but he said I'd get used to it and that was 3 years ago and I'm still not used to it. I'm going to have all of mine removed, what's left that is, and get a full set of dentures. That way I won't have any more pain due to damned teeth breaking or having to have those darn hateful shots to numb my mouth anymore, it'll all be wiped out and gone for good!! Grant you, dentures cost a pretty penny but to me, it'll be worth while because I'll finally have a set of teeth with dentures!! Think about doing that, for it has to be better than having broken teeth and unable to eat right because of broken or no teeth to chew with. Add me to your friends list so we can keep in touch. Where are you from? I'm in the USA, North Carolina to be exact.

It really happens that we have a bad day sometimes. And I believe there are really reasons why this is happening.. As for the teeth, I think its good to just have an artificial dentures instead. Maybe you lack calcium. Thats just my 2 cents. For that, dont feel bad :) Think of a way that will make you feel good and happy. Like mylotting. I believe, talking about this here in mylot gives you a better feeling. so Keep it up :) have a great day!

You have a nice way of thinking about it. I wish I knew what the reason is for then I'd know more about what to do!! lol I think having the rest removed and getting dentures is the best way to go. I hope so because once it's done, there's no turning back. Hope you have a great day too!

I am sorry to hear that you are having such a bad time with your teeth. We really have to watch what we eat growing up because it plays a big part of your dental hygene as well as other issues. I am also sorry to hear that you have Lupus.... it is a serious illness. God bless you and I hope that you get this matter at a pace where you ccan relax!

I agree but we as kids are so hard headed because we think we're invincable but as we grow older, we find that we're not. However, I did care for my teeth, brushed them every day of my life and still it didn't work out like I had hoped but at least I have them as long as I did so that's another way of looking at it. I've had so much dumped in my lap today that I didn't have time to check with my dentist but I'm free tomorrow, I hope so maybe then I'll get something done. Thanks for your kind words and may God bless you too!!

Holy cow JulianaRose really?! Oh my gosh!! That's terrible but it wasn't yours or his fault. Things happen although we may never know why but it's for a reason. Did it hurt him? Did he get it fixed?

i've had the same problem with my teeth breaking sense i was thirteen.I brush like five times a day, floss, and use mouthwash so i know what your going through. I finally got some answers when i started going to my newest dentist about a year ago. He said it has nothing to do with my dental hygeine that he believes it had to do with my calcium intake. He said if i wasn't getting enough calcium it would cause my teeth to become very weak and he suggested i start taking a calcium supplement. I've been taking one ever sense and haven't had anymore chipping incidences. I don't know if this will help you or not but it's worth a try cause i know it's way to expensive for anyone to keep making dentist trips. I hope this helps and that your day gets better

Hi Louprincesss.... Welcome to mylot!! Hope you enjoy it and make a lot of new friends!! I'm afraid of taking calcium supplements because of my mother. Every problem she's ever had medically, I got too except the kidney stones. Her doctor told her that her body doesn't absorb the calcium properly and instead turns into kidney stones and I'm afraid it could happen to me. However, it's a wonderful and good idea but I'm afraid it won't work for me.

Wow, it does sound like you are having a bad day. Take care of that phone call another day. If you have caller ID, don't answer when he calls, let the machine pick up. It sounds like your nerves are so uptight that its making things even worse for you. Not that having a broken tooth is not bad, it is. I have dental issues too and no money for a dentist. I have always brushed my teeth too. I have several broken ones too. Good luck Cats if you do talk to your brother, if it get too bad, say bye and hang up. Don't put up with his crap.

My brother did call but I told him it wasn't a good time and he was ok with that. Actually he sounded a bit put off but I didn't care, and then he said, we'll do it another time, I don't know when because I've got a busy schedule bla bla bla and I just said "Ok, another time would be better for me" and left it at that. He'll just have to get over it is all. I tried to call him back about a half hour later and got his voice mail and I know darn well that he was on his way to work and hadn't gotten there yet because he drives at least an hour to his gigs, he just didn't want to answer. Know what I say? OH WELL.

I really doubt it will because he's a talker and I'm not. He beats around the bush and I don't. I like to get to the point and state my case and get it over with so I can get to the good stuff, if you know what I mean. I'm not an arguer but he is but I AM a fighter, WHEN I have to be and only then. I'll give the person a fair warning or two and then it's whack!! Duh.... what just hit me? LOL

I am glad you are using the listerine to fight the infection, and make sure nothing worse happens. I am sorry you are having all this trouble with your teeth. I was wondering if maybe you clinch them and break them. Hope the discussion with the brother goes okay.

I rinse with peroxide, no sting. Have you looked for a dental school? I have been told that is the way to go for my hubby, perhaps. A mouth guard might help with the clinching of the teeth.

Oh yes definetly us listerine. It stings like crazy but it does do the job. And it stops my having thrush too which is something I was getting quite often. Yes I clinch my teeth a lot when I sleep. My dentist said it's a bad habit and a hard one to break. Now I don't have any back teeth on the bottom and lost the last two on the back top but a dentist who was practicing on me gave me two implants for a very low price but still, now that I've moved, I don't have this dentist anymore which is a huge bummer and the implants are expensive... YIKES!! So dentures are the way that I have to go.... what a bummer. My brother did call last night but it was at a bad time so I told him another time would be better and he tried his guilt trip crap as usual with "Another time it is, I don't know when that'll be because of my schedule bla bla bla.... " the same ole guilt trip crap that he does and I just ignored it and said ok bye!

I did look for a dental school but didn't find any around here. I might not be looking in all the right places but I did look. I live in North Carolina near the Virginia border and got here about 2 years ago so I'm not real fimiliar of the area yet but am learning. A few years ago my dentist gave me this weird thing that snapped onto my front teeth to stop the grinding but I had a terrible time getting it off and kind of freaked me out so I threw the darn thing away.

Awwww...sweetie I'm sorry. I think if I were in your shoes I'd be in begging that dentist to pull them all out too. I have to go to the dentist myself as a few of my teeth are starting to hurt a lot, but I haven't been for over 20 years. So I can just imagine all the fun he is going to have dealing with my teeth. UGH! I feel for you sweetie. Hugs to you.

Yes, we definitely have dental insurance. Another plus is that my niece is a dental assistant in one of the local offices, so we might be able to get a bit of a discount there too. I'm just not ready to go in and deal with all of it just yet. It's just not a pleasant thought. LOL

I hope the hell you have dental insurance because it's so freaky expensive!! I can't believe they charge as much as they do for it's insane and yet they get away with it. I think that's exactly what I'm going to do, have him pull them out because it's enough already type of thing. I have enough to deal with, I sure as hell don't need any more.

Yup, it does sound like you are having a bad day. I do hope it gets better for you. Dentures might be a good way to go. It would probably save you a lot of stress. It might make you feel better also. Definitely something to consider.

I really think that's the way I'm going to go. I've given it enough time or more than enough time to correct itself with treatment and fixings, shot after horrible shot in the mouth.... I've reached my breaking point and just have had enough of that nonesense. I think it would relieve a lot of my stress too after getting past the pain of them being pulled!! LOL BTW, long time no see!! How are you doing?! Please do give me an update!! As for myself, I'm going batty!!

Awww thanks Chevee!! The roses made me smile!! Thanks so much!! I just wish this ugly black cloud would disapate or go away once and for all. I've had enough bad luck this year that I'm so drained out of everything including mental. I told my hubby that if it doesn't lighten up some then I'm going to commit myself for a few days to get my wits about myself again because I've had enough and can't take anymore. I just can't.

it is unlucky for me to have a false tooth ,because I think it is not good looking .When I was a teenager i broke my one tooth when playing with my fellows, then there was a false tooth in my mouth ,i think it is to bad for a girl .

Emily, that's being sexist and that's one thing we need to break from in our world. Women are equal to men in every way except in strength however, women have strong emotional strength than men do because that's the way God made us. So that said, it wouldn't be a bad thing for a woman to have false teeth, not if they fit her right they'll look right nice. Maybe you should get a different dentist, one that can make your smile look better?

There are illnesses that can really make you lose your teeth. Did you tell your doctor about it? I lost about four of my teeth recently from a softball accident. And I have not worked on seeing my dentist yet because it will definitely cost money. I am saving up for it though because I intend on having a new set of dentures. So away they will go and I will say hello to plastic teeth.

I have bad teeth as well,i think its the irish/scottish backround, lol~if you notice they don't have very strong teeth. But if you are in any pain like i am occasionally, heres a few tips that actually relieve the pain temporarily: ICE on the palm of your hand, the opposite side that your pain is on,it has something to do with the nerves, and it cuts the pain by 90% if you can tolerate the cold. PURE vanilla extract acts much the same way as orajel does it really works but it has to be pure! Clove oil mixed with water,if you don't mix it,it can burn you Diet coke relieves the pain as well,i don't know why,but it worked for me. Hope i helped.
