I'm very late this year. I usually have all my fruits e.g. raisins, currants and prunes soaking a mixture or rum and wine by July to bake at Christmas. So I am off now to buy the fruis. What I will do is put all of the fruit (cut up pruns with scissors) into a big pot and simmer the fruits in the wine and rum. This way the fruits will absorb the liquid. I only add cherries at the last minute before baking so they keep their colour. I don't like candied peel in my cakes/puddings. Does anyone else soak their fruit in rum and wine?

I have never soaked dried fruit in anything except water. That was for a recipe I had for oatmeal raisin cookies. The raisins plump back up just a bit and make for moister cookies.

I'm pretty sure I'm not talented enough to make a fruit cake on my own. I'm proud of myself when I make fudge brownies, which I admit I have not done in quite a while. But your fruit cake sounds yummy! I love fruit cake, and it is fun during the holidays to try all the different kinds people make. I don't think I've ever tasted any fruit cake that tasted exactly like each other. Which is good to me!

I know what you mean - they do all taste that little bit different. Everyone likes to add something different. Guess what, I cannot make brownies! Thank you for your response.
