Generally, you have to find an American employer who wants to hire you before you leave China. Then, you have to apply for a work visa and other papers before you leave. You might also have to get credentials from your own country. Some people will come and visit us on a visitor's visa and will later be hired after they get here. But, it's very tricky because you really can't be looking for work here on a visitor's visa. You kinda have to know someone here that might be willing to help. This is not unique to the United States. Most countries in the world require you to have a means of support before you move there.
