Christams as I understand it was supposed to be about celebrating the birth of Christ right but what obtains now - a commercial event where the essence of the holiday is about gift buying and partying and having fun.A few persons still give to charity but most persons are more preoccupied with the "feel good aspect" of christmas.
This leads me to contemplate how would Christ himself celebrate his birthday if he was here and would he celebrate his birthday?.
These I think are pertinent questions that persons need to ask as we approach the christmas season.

I had dinner at someone's house a few years and they had birthday stuff up. So, I say "You're really celebrating Jesus' birthday". They looked at me like I was speaking Chinese. Then said, our son's birthday was month a go. They were a bit odd, but sadly I think most people forget what the day is about.

well I think its not the gift buying, its the gift giving.. There is still the traditional value of christmas. But its not a necessity to buy gifts, Im sure most of the people still think that its not important to buy and give gifts if you are not capable of doing so.
And yet,in celebrating a birthday, gifts, party, and happiness are some factors to consider.

I think since the beginning, the christmas lots its true meaning in my town. The youth just followed the trend. They don't even know what the christmas is. Maybe it is a little overstated though! But it is a western festival, isn't it? What if some Ansian also celebrate it?

Right Discussion..... you have started at the right time....that too in a right season......
Some of the persons, no, most of the persons forgot the real meaning of the Christmas..... they celebrate the Christmas as a moment of giving gifts and eating cakes...... and some of the persons even go for dating on the Christmas day.. and that makes me very sad.....????
Some must give them the information about the real meaning of the Christmas....

Christ liked to party. I am sure he would find it acceptable and honoured that a party was being thrown in his honour. He would dislike the hypocrites who are insulted by Christian symbols in public places though.
By the way, what would Jesus drive? A big truck just like all the other carpenters.

I don't know how Christ would celebrate it, if He would celebrate it at all, but I agree that many have lost the wonder of Christmas because they don't understand or want to accept the reason for it.
Some will say that Christmas started out to be a pagan celebration, and so it was, but the church used the days close to it (not the same days) to declare a celebration of the birth of the Savior.
Plastic Christmas trees, gold wrapping paper and electric candles can't come close to the reality of knowing who Jesus is and why He came.
It's no wonder people are disillusioned.

Depends on which family you are in rather the true meaning of Christmas is lost. But a lot have lost the true meaning of Christmas. A lot go in the red trying to buy what the deem as Christmas. If we have the money to buy something we do but if te money isn't there then no. We try to help others ou at Christmas as well. Do I think Christ would celebrat his birthday I don't think he would have a big celebratin no. He might gather with a few friends and family and sit around and talk and teach.
