I am pretty new to this site and social networking sites in general. I have noticed since I joined mylot that there is quite a bit of division amognst its users. That doesn't really surprise me all that much. I have also noticed that posts on this site seem to disappear for reasons that are not clear. This does surprise me. I was under the assumption that we could express our opinions freely to whomeevr I wished. thinking about this now I have come to relaize that this is not in fact the case. Do we have the right to freely express ourselves? Absolutely! As citizens of the free world we have that right. Does Mylot have the right as a business to allow or reject any content that is posted? Of course they do. Someone owns this site. It is not public domain. If the owner of Mylot wanted to, he/she could pull the plug without batting an eyelash and there would be no consequences except pissing a lot of people off.
Unfortunately that is the reality. However, having said that I believe that in principle the owner of Mylot has created for him/herself a responsibility of sorts. they have taken it upon themselves to open up a forum in which people from all over the world can come and express themselves and their opinions on a variety of matters. Some of which are quite sensitive issues and some of which are not. we all know that in business, principles rarely affect the outcome of decisions made.
So what's my point? My point is that this site and sites like it have much more power than we are lending them. This site for me and many others has put people in touch all over the world. It has createda sense of community where none existed before. Back in the days before the internet we could not speak with one another so easily and freely. We could not care for one another and our plights. we were certainly not so intimate with one another. But now we are. Here we are learning about other peoples lives. Learning to love each other and develop relationships with each other.
There are many hurtful and angry people out there that would distract us from the goal of making a better world for our kids and grand kids. It is our responsibility to stand up for what is right and not flee in the face of those that would attack us simply for trying to be good, caring people. The new battle ground in the fight against intolerance and injustice is being laid out before us and we are the soldiers on the field.
I know this sounds very dramatic, but each and everyone of us makes the world what it is today. If we falter in our convictions and give in to those that would topple us then we fail ourselves and those future generations that will come after us. We don't know what the world will be like for our kids. we cannot because we don't have a way to predict that which will happen.
In conclusion we cannot be held responsible for how the world is tomorrow, we can only be responsible for our actions today. This is a cry for the good people of the world to come together to create a better world. Take responsibilty. fight the good fight and never retreat in the face of evil. I hope this post does not get deleted.

Very well said!
I'm happy that there are other
people on Mylot who feel that it's better
to stand up than just run away.
