In our journey from birth to death, many of us chose to question the meaning of life. Such people may strive for improvement, seek out knowledge and search for the divine. Not content with simply accepting the teachings of any particular religion, which can often take on certain rituals and specific beliefs, they seek to find a peace within through the practice of compassion, gratitude, appreciation, forgiveness, generosity and meditation. While some may relate their Spirituality to a God or Goddess, all seek to feel a oneness with the universe. They believe that it doesn't matter where we find our spiritual path for we are all spiritual beings and the essence of that is knowing one's true self and finding a peace that comes from within rather than from the outside world.Spirituality also tends to include habits that promote healthy living. A recent quote caught my eye, it said, "if you don't go within, you go without". I feel we could all use more spirituality and some may be able to incorporate it into to religious life. What are your thoughts?

We need to learn from our mistakes and grow beneath. We need to understand that spiritual beings are not necessarily religious beings. We need to strive for peace on earth, help those in need ,and put our words to practice by spreading joy and happiness instead of hatred and ignorance.

I was never brought up in a religion, so I don't really believe in the books and temples, churches and preachers but your little quote of "within" fits in with my spiritual beliefs as i believe our inner voice is our guide so I have my own beliefs which is nothing like any religion but is all about listening to the ineer voice, loving one self, and that we are all cared for by spirit guides who nudge us to do the right thing hence the inner voice.

I like to read your deep philosphical sayings here on mylot. You set me thinking. I do consider our life as a journey and we do have to reach our goal not a material one but a spiritual one. I hope that all of us do reach that goal. © ronaldinu 2008

I like this question a lot. =P I completely agree, I think we could all stand to be a little more spiritual. Sadly, today, many live a mechanical lifestyle and lack virtue. Many people that we meet today do not practice or have the qualities you mentioned, but simply live in what society has involved into today. We could all stand to be a bit more spiritual I think, if not from a religious point of view, then from a health perspective. By finding our peace within, we are content. We do not need to search for more and there's no constant itch to discover something. We are simply - as I said before - content with our lives. I'll steal one of your examples here to elaborate on how it can be effective towards our health. =P By practicing compassion towards others, we feel that we're actually doing something worthwile, and again we're happy. Sprituality may be practiced in accordance to religion, but that all depends on the person. I believe that the effect is the same and the overall results is a satisfied life. I hope I understood your question right. =P

Hi Zezloler, Thank you for responding and I liked your comments. You did understand my question correctly. I agree that practicing compassion is one of the best things we can do for our health, another is gratitude. I agree too that in practicing with religion, it would depend upon the person but also I think it would also depend on the religion or particular denomination. Blessings.

Hi, I think that spirituality is not connected with religion. However, we can choose to follow a religious path if it helps us progress. Religion is not necessary, but a sense of spirituality is. IN essence, there is no one path, and no secret to life. El etnografo by Borges comes to mind here.
