Not sure. Maybe its a sense of superiority, dominance, control, power, ability to threaten and gain. Maybe its so that individuals "have protection" together, against other individuals or groups. It may be to run a business, profit, etc. I also agree that it is a very sad organization and violent at that. They grow and use the weak, threaten lives, and engage in all sorts of risky things. Most of the time it may be peer pressure.

right? most gangs are a form of family in areas where protection is needed. however the extent they go to is ridiculous. a lot of them can offer a home, or money and thats a lure, but what they feel comfotable in doing is disgusting. an old oouple was killed close to me because the 2 young kids said they had to each kill someone to get into a gang. crazy.

Gangs are like tribes. People invent them the way they invent corporations or fraternities. Becoming a destructive gang makes it easy to get decimated by the law or the other gangs. Cheers!!
