Has anyone seen the commercials for the movie called Wall-E? If so, does the robot remind you of the robot in the 1986 movie Short Circuit? The robot in the movie said "No. 5 is Alive", if you can remember that far back. Amazing it has been 22 years. It was a really cute movie.

I've been to see Wall-E in the Cinema! Yep,I reckon Johnny 5 must have been some kind of far back relation of Wall-E...Although It just seems a little funny that Short Circuit, 22 years ago, featured the Wisea$$ motormouth (ex?) Military 'bot whose programming changed when struck by lightning, whereas Wall-E in 2008 is almost a Silent Movie Character..a bit of a step back?

Glad to hear from someone who has actually seen the movie Wall-E. It sounds like you remember Short Circuit a lot more than I do.
That's funny though, that the newer movie would seem like it has less technology the older one. Odd how things like that happen.
Thanks for responding to this discussion, and have a great day!

Short Circuit would be a Guilty pleasure movie for Me, with it being a bit of a kiddy pleasing performance, but I enjoyed the cultural references and gags at the time, and Ally Sheedy looked like She had fun making the Movie!

Hello Stephanie...............I actually saw the commercial for the first time today. I thought it was related to Johnny five. I loved that movie, and I loved Johnny five. I actually cried when they were shooting at him. Yeah, the little robot in the commercial did make me think of Short circuit.

I'm confused, who's Stephanie?
Wow, you have an even great recollection of the movie than I do. I'm glad to hear that I was the only one who thought about it when they saw the commercials for Wall-E.
Thank you for your response in this discussion, and have a great day!

YES! I just said that the other day, "Doesn't Wall-e look like an itty bitty Number 5?" And no one got what I was talking about. The reference was completely lost, even when I explained who Number 5 (or Johnny 5, as he named himself) was.

I wouldn't think there's much similarity between the movies, other than that they both heavily feature engagingly expressive, tracked Robots..check out both profiles on www.imdb.com-I'm sure there are discussions there about the differences and similarities! #5 and his unit were versatile robot "soldiers",until lightning zaps him,He develops a personality and tries to prove to his creator He's Alive so that they won't reset him back as he was..Wall-E is the last(?) working cleanup bot many years after Earth's ecosystem had collapsed (The only living things are Wall-E's "friend",a cockroach, and a small plant Wall-E recently found and looks after) and humanity has left Earth to live on corporate consumer driven Space cruise ships,to be tended by robots until Earth Recovers-A probe bot,EVA,arrives, meets Wall-E,then returns to the Human's spaceship with the Plant-He hitches a lift to be with Her and helps set in motion events leading to a decision for the People to return to Earth or Stay on the ship?
