It's completely ridiculous to deny another human being a home over some paper.

Unfortunately, a home is not a right. If it were, no one would feel the need to pay their rent/mortgage and we'd be in worse shape than we're in now.

I am worried about this sight. Someone should take action to them. Provide them with work and a place to live. I just hope they pay attention to them. The least that I can do is give them something to eat.

Unfortunatly I think that there will be a lot more that will b homeless soon, one small town not far from us is losing 8200 jobs by Jan. 30th. this is in a town of 12,000 people. There is not left around us as the auto plants that we have had for years are all gone execpt for 2 that one will close Dec. 23 and the other On new years eve. That is a lot of people out of work all at once. How do these people pay their bills, the government programs is struggling to keep up around here. We are about out of unemployment benefits and need some thing done in this session to give us more money for unemployment. Every time a business goes down, it puts more on the roles of the welfare department. As for homeless there seems to be more on the street as the days go on. Vets it seems have been denied so much that they have quit asking for help and just would rather live and get by the best they can. There is no reason for a vet who has fought for this country to be treated this way, or anyone else for that matter. It will get worse and I don't believe that our new president will do anything to help, I do believe he is not interested in the poor, I never once heard him remark about the elderly or homeless in all his speeches it was all about the middle class, well the middle class is slowly srinking because those are the one losing the jobs.

There has been a disturbing increase in homeless families here in Florida due to the foreclosure problem and the lack of affordable housing. As far as homeless veterans go, my husband is a Vietnam vet and has reached out to a few he's met at the V. A. hospital. My husband has PTSD so he's encountered these men in the Mental Health Dept and each time it's turned out that they live on the street because they prefer to live a solitary, isolated life. My husband understands where they're coming from. If you have nothing, you have nothing to lose. If you have no one, you can't be hurt when you lose them. If you expect nothing, you're never disappointed.

I am a member of AVVA (Associates of Vietnam Veterans of America) since my father served during that time. I see more than my share of homeless vet's from Vietnam thru current war. Its really a horrific sight to know that these men and women put there lives on the line for our freedom and to come back and not even being afforded the basic necessities of life. So many of them suffer from mental illnesses that go untreated. If you have ever visited the White House you know that at the very end on the green grass is a very large group of homeless, mamed, hungry and mentally ill vets that call it home. For them its a living protest for how our country has repaid them for their service. To this day I think that has been one of the most shocking things that I have ever witnessed. Many of these men and women sleep in cardboard boxes on the sidewalk literally of the Whitehouse.

There are lots of homeless in the park across from the White House (Lafayette Park). When I lived in DC, it was almost like a tent city there. One year I lived there, for the Christmas pageant, a sculptor made a manger scene that mimicked the homeless living in a cardboard box. It is shameful.

I volunteer at a crisis center and it's been bad every since Katrina. When it starts getting a little better, something else happens to make it worse...it's like a stair-step going down. Happy MyLotting!

I think with the economy continuing on its rugged path, we will continue to see more homeless people. Many people are just a paycheck away from disaster, and with so many people losing their jobs, it's likely to get worse before it gets better. As for the vets on the street, I think you will find that many of them have mental health issues. The majority of homeless remain that way for the same reason. The mentally ill have rights to come and go as they please, but it's not always in their own best interest, and once they are out on the street, their chance of getting the help they need worsens. I wish I could paint a happier picture, but I think that the problems will worsen. Already there are dire reports from food pantries and soup kitchens. Donations have lessened because of the economic crunch for businesses and individuals.
