I love songs that tell stories, regardless of genre, so what do you think are the top storytelling song of all time? I have a few in mind which I love listed below:
Undying Love - Nas
The River - Springsteen
Hurricane - Dylan
Cortez the Killer - Neil Young
Dance with the Devil - Immortal Technique
Children's Story - Slick Rick

I think that Johnny Cash is an awesome storytelling singer. My favorite song by him is A Boy Named Sue.

Nick Cave has some great storytelling songs.
Check out "O'Malley's Bar". Maybe not the greatest but sure unique in it's sickness.

I try to keep my taste in music as broad as i can, but all thats coming to me at the moment is hip hop songs. Here's my list:
Joe Budden - "The Sides To A Story"
Told from the perspective of three different people: a boy in his mid-teens, his younger sister, and their stepfather (who abuses the kids and actually impregnates the girl).
Hilltop Hoods - "Stopping All Stations"
These guys are a very talented Aussie hip hop group and actually have quite a few more "story" songs. This song is similar to the previous one, told from three perspectives: an old man, a poor teenager desperate for money, and a female bystander. This is the story of an old man getting robbed and killed on a train.
Metallica - "One"
You've all probably heard this song so i shouldn't have to explain.
Lupe Fiasco -
Pretty much at least 2/3 of his new album are story songs, and some of his last album. Lupe has an amazing imagination. One of the songs from his new album is actually told from the perspective of a cheeseburger...
Immortal Technique - "Dance With The Devil"
Probably another one many of you have already heard. Definately a recommended track.
Tonedeff - "Porcelain"
Tonedeff gives us a story of his childhood all the way to after graduation, focusing on his dream girl that he never had the guts to ask out. They meet once again a few years after high school graduation, he takes her on a date, and she breaks his heart. Tonedeff is an extremely talented rapper and his performance in this song is amazing.
Nas - "Surviving The Times"
An autobiography of the rappers life compressed to three verses. Nas fans here should be familiar with this song.
Thats all i can think of right now.
