Nothing is as good as a real rest

I was often asked whether I am suffering some kind of sickness. Honestly, I am not. It is just that I can't sleep long enough to have a good rest. Rest should be more than a necessity, a reward, even a kind of an art in that some people get very good at while most of us don't do it very well at all.
Human beings are renewable, rechargeable devices. When we run down and don't rest, we bring to lose our light, our sight, our might. Each person needs to find his own formula for rest, but it should not be thought of as an interruption or a grudged necessity, and certainly not as a waste of time. Rather, rest should be enjoyed, looked forward to, and planned for. For some, exercise is the best way to relax, and it brings on real rest. For others, rest is as simple as catching up on sleep. Sleep itself is different for different people. Some need a certain amount each night. Some do find on less if they can take a nap or a rest in the afternoon or early evening. Some can catch up on weekends. The important think is to value rest, to plan it to relish it. Do you find trouble in sleeping and how many hours a night do you sleep? My sleep is so short that I am never able to catch a dream or hear the c0ck craws before I am up messing around the house, reading books or surfing.

Have you considered that you might have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? Look the illness up on the web and see if you have the symptoms. The main one is fatigue lasting for 6 months or longer.
I was diagnosed with it 2 years ago and one of my problems is that I cannot get restful sleep and have not been able to for 2 years. I cannot stay asleep long enough I get into deep sleep which is where the rest occurs. I rarely sleep longer than 2 or 3 hours at at time. I can sleep up to 10 hours in a night but I will keep waking up every 2 or 3 hours then go back to sleep and so on all night.
I do dream occasionally but that is light sleep and while we need REM sleep we also need deep sleep to restore the body.

I usually sleep about 7 hours a night but wake up 2 or 3 times during those hours. I can also sleep for an hour in the afternoon if I feel tired or I can rest and refresh myself by just relaxing with a good book. For me the best rest I get is on my days off. I like to walk on the beach with the dog then home to a nice warm bath and then bed. I sleep better and remember my dreams more on those nights.
You are so right when you say we need to recharge our batteries, lack of relaxation and sleep can make you ill or it can make your concentration and judgement faulty. Most accidents happen when people are 'tired'. However trying to catch up at week-ends isn't a good idea! It doesn't balance out and it can upset your bodies natural rythmn leaving you feeling more tired than a normal sleep period does. I always get a headache if I sleep more than my normal 7 hours.

I think there really are people like you whose sleep is just short and yet they are fine. I know a local actress here when interviewed said her sleep is normally just 3 to 4 hours and the longest is 5 and yet that to her is already is enough to keep her going active for the rest of the day till night.
Well not me. I have to sleep at least 7 to 8 hours a day to complete my night! I have no difficulty in sleeping. As I lay down to bed after my evening prayers...I automatically go zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz till morning comes.

Yup that is really true. Nothing could really beat a good rest especially now that life has become more stressful. For me I make sure that I get at least 7 hours of sleep on weekdays and 8 on weekends. I don't oversleep during weekends because there are a lot of fun things to do on weekends that could be done instead of oversleeping. If you're having troubles with your sleep maybe you could check out the discussion here and maybe you'll find an answer.

Rest is really very important. Sleeping is the best form of rest. We are energized when we sleep. That should be the case.
i am one of the people that is gifted with a good sleeping appetite. I sleep 8 hours nightly. And if given the chance i will take nap in mid afternoon.
I was advised by my doctor to take VitE before.. He said I was stressed since I was supposed to be rested after I woke up in the afternoon , but that time i was so feeling so tired.
I followed his advise. Then everything went back smoothly. You might be stressed and you do need some relaxation. try having a candle , or something that would help you realx. Try also taking a shower and using a lavender body wash before you sleep. It might help you.

I will never forget this holiday I once had.
I was in this pressure job, working till 10.00 pm at night everyday during the week and on weekends sometimes when I got two weeks holidays.
I had no money to travel so I decided just to take it easy and get lots of rest.
I spent time in the malls, hours relaxing in cool bars and waking up late and I will never forget how rested and relaxed I felt after I began this holiday.
You might need something like this.
Don't do anything stressful or too much exercise.
Just cool out everywhere and wake up when you feel like it.

I agree with you. A real rest makes everybody feel good before you start work again. Somebody think that a real rest is only lie in bed all day or go to spa. But I think a real rest is do something I really want to do or do nothing. I often go to shopping without buy anything, maybe I go for watching people, listen to more information. Sometimes I go on Internet to chat with my friends. Or somethings I feel they will make me good

Yup, I agree that a good sleep or rest is very important to health and rejuvenation. I can be sleeping for hours, yet wake up more lethargic than before. The quality of sleep is so important - there is nothing like waking up really refreshed, you know, that kind of deep sleep undisturbed by dreams or anything! That would be the type of rest I wish for every night!

Every body is different when it comes to sleep. Some people grab a few hours and they are good to go. Others sleep long and hard and look like they will never wake up. That would be me I normally sleep between nine to ten hours a night.
On nights when I am having difficulty sleeping I stay in bed, resting the body. The mind may be racing around like a chicken with no head, but at least the body is resting. I have heard that sleep is 95% resting the body, so there is no sense for me getting out of that bed

I agree. Taking a good and deep sleep is still the best remedy for a weak body. Rest is the most basic yet most important thing to rejuvenate and recharge our system; thus keeping us active all day. We should all relax well and take time to rest.

Hi there Zandi!
I also believe in the importance of having enough rest. Like you, I find it hard to have just that because there's just a lot of things to do. In our life, we are usually appearing to be in a hurry, like time is always running out and we still have a lot of things to do. That's not bad especially if it's with work and for your needs and your family's too but it is as important to have rest or relaxation. Even though you can't have it everyday, once in a while is good enough, I believe.
